Todo y Nada is back for the fall! A new performance series in SMA, each month we feature accomplished local writers and musicians while showcasing voices from the community at our open mic. Music, poetry, stories, and more. All mediums welcome! This month we are excited to feature writers Rosaleen Bertolino and Fredrika Sprengle, and Todo y Nada’s originator, poet-mischief-maker Matthew Brouwer. Rosaleen and Fredrika both have novels in the works and Matthew will be performing poems from his new chapbook, The Gospel According to Matthew, Apocryphal Tales. Musical accompaniment will be provided by jazz musician Carolyn Studer.

Hosted at Geek & Coffee on the grounds of Fabrica La Aurora. No cost for entry. We will pass the hat for our writers and food/drink purchases are encouraged to support the venue. All seating is outdoors. See you there!

Rosaleen Bertolino was born in San Francisco and currently lives in San Miguel de Allende. Her short stories have most recently appeared in Mom-Egg Review, Bellevue Literary Review, New England Review, and failbetter. Winner of the 2019 Many Voice Project Prize, her debut collection, “The Paper Demon & Other Stories,” was released from New Rivers Press late last year. Co-founder and host of Prose Café, a monthly reading series based in San Miguel, she is currently at work on a novel and another collection of stories.

Fredrika Sprengle has two lifelong loves–writing and teaching.  As a writer, she leans toward dark humor in memoir and fiction. She’s a sucker for writing classes and has studied the craft of writing extensively. For example, she went to the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston, where she studied with Don Barthleme, Vivian Gornick, and Phillip Lopate. At Hedgebrook, she worked with Karen Joy Fowler, Reiko Rizzuto, and comedy writer Wendy Goldman.  She combines teaching, writing, and developmental editing to help others use their unique talents and voice to create captivating stories. She has lived outside San Miguel for four years and is working on a novel set there.

Blending music, poetry, wit and wisdom from his tangled poetic journey, Matthew Brouwer weaves together a unique and unforgettable poetry experience that has been charming audiences for over a decade. Bridging the worlds of spoken word and literary poetry, he has performed throughout the US and been featured in a number of literary, visual and performance arts showcases. He has a new chapbook The Gospel According to Matthew which you should purchase before it is buried forever by the sands of obscurity and time.

Carolyn Studer is a published poet, musician, and Presbyterian minister from Los Angeles, California. Carolyn has read at numerous literary events in San Miguel and is currently working on her first collection of poems. She is a Board member of San Miguel’s Prose Cafe.
