  • Palestine proves of it doesn’t take a genocidal war to initiate systematic ethnic cleansing. Jeff Halper, our presenter for the April 29 Center for Global Justice program, co-founded and leads the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. For years before the Israel-Hamas war, Jeff argued forcefully that the 2-state solution the US clings to is in shambles. The ICAHD website notes:
    • More than 173,000 Palestinian homes have been demolished in Israel and the Occupied Palestine Territory (OPT) since 1947.
    • In 2023 alone, ICAHD analysis revealed that over 1,395 structures were demolished and 1,537 people displaced in the West Bank with a further 66,136 people directly affected.

    • In 2022, 2,845 structures were demolished in the Negev/Naqab, including 771 homes.
This is but one facet of the occupation, along with continuing illegal Israeli settlement, that permeates the Palestinian experience.
Our speaker will assess the options remaining for Palestine/Israel in a postwar context that has complex historical roots becoming ever-more tangled. He has made his home in Israel since 1973 and is a co-founder of The One Democratic State Campaign.

eff Halper is an Israeli-American anthropologist, author, lecturer, and political activist who has lived in Israel since 1973. He is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD) and a co-founder of The One Democratic State Campaign (ODSC)
