    On the eve of its celebration, San Miguel de Allende is ready to experience the traditional Holy Week.

    In coordination with the religious authorities in this World Heritage city, the Municipal Presidency presented the cultural program that will accompany these international festivities that worship the Passion of Christ.

    Starting this Sunday, March 17 with the “Traída del Señor de la Columna”, the traditions of San Miguel of Holy Week span from next Saturday, March 30, with a series of massive and solemn events, which include the different processions and religious activities that take place in the main temples of the historic center, having as its main event the traditional procession of the “Holy Burial”.

    Thus, this coming March 22, the traditional Friday of Sorrows will be celebrated, where San Miguel residents and visitors will be able to enjoy the altars in homes and public spaces.

    On Sunday, March 24, the activities continue with Palm Sunday, a day that begins at 6:30 a.m. with the “Procession and Mass with the Lord of Triumph,” followed by the “Procession and Blessing of Las Palmas” at 11 a.m., filling the atriums of the temples with the fervor of the San Miguel faithful and the admiration of tourists and visitors.

    From Monday, March 25 to Friday, March 29, the Holy Days, San Miguel de Allende will host a series of masses, processions and representations of the Stations of the Cross, where the following solemn celebrations stand out:

    This cultural program highlights Holy Monday with the “Arrest and Procession with the Divine Prisoner” in the temple of the Oratory. On Holy Tuesday there will be a “Passion Mass” at 7 p.m. in the church of San Francisco and on Holy Wednesday there will be a solemn “Procession with the image of the Lord of the Column”, which will leave at 5 p.m. through the main streets of the San Juan de Dios neighborhood.

    On Holy Thursday, the Procession of the Temple of San Juan de Dios stands out. On Good Friday, there will be the procession of the “Holy Encounter” at 11 a.m. around the iconic parish of San Miguel Arcángel and that same day at sunset the traditional “Holy Burial” will take place, the most important procession for the people of San Miguel, with thousands of local and foreign families filling the streets of the historic center. in an atmosphere of veneration characterized by the aroma of chamomile and incense that is perceived as it passes, enlivened by the “Songs of Passion” that accompany the images of the Mysteries of Jesus: from the apprehension to the Reclining Christ being taken down from the cross.

    Finally, on Saturday, March 30, Saturday of Glory, the activities close with the “Ceremony of Condolence” starting at 6 p.m. in the temple of the Oratory.

    In all these events that, year after year, are the protagonists of the families of San Miguel, they not only give life to this World Heritage city, but are also enriched with the participation of the new generations who maintain their traditional processes of veneration and generate unique experiences that are lived in this holiday season.

    Attached to its essence of San Miguel, the Municipal Presidency continues to work together with the population in favor of the traditions of San Miguel de Allende.
