World Autism Awareness Month is celebrated every April to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder12. Autism affects over 70 million people worldwide and is the most rapidly growing developmental disability in North America1. The American Autism Association celebrates World Autism Month, beginning with United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 22. Throughout the month, the focus is on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of the autism community.
Niños con Autismo de San Miguel de Allende, A.C. provides services including evaluation and diagnosis and the development of individual treatment plans and therapy for children with autism. Niños con Autismo was founded in 2014 with a mission of identifying, evaluating and providing individualized therapies for children and young adults with autism here in SMA and the surrounding rural communities. Based on recent statistics we have 400 plus children and young adults on the autism spectrum. As you would expect, early diagnosis is critical to our children because an early diagnosis can result in early treatment and a better chance of living the best life possible.
