More Hip Hop and Less Violence. As the title of our presentation suggests, there is a team in San Miguel de Allende that utilizes Hip Hop as a tool to intervene with gang members to promote peace. The program is called Ranchero Pandilleros and it began in 2017 under the auspices of CASA.
There are many of us who are concerned about the rising violence and questionable safety in San Miguel de Allende. Ranchero Pandilleros San Miguel is now a well-functioning, nonprofit, anti-violence program that intervenes with gang members in an effort to dissuade them from a life of violence and criminal activity. The program is one of many that C.A.S.A. has developed to meet the needs of underserved, at risk and impoverished individuals.
Isael Gonzalez directs the Rancho Pandillero program and utilizes his vast educational background and hands-on experience to evoke change in the multigenerational gang associations that exist in San Miguel. He is assisted by former gang members who sought a peaceful and more productive lifestyle. Through music and art, gang members channel their anger and frustrations while learning to utilize non-violent methods of conflict resolution. Gang members compete via. Hip Hop music challenges, and the graffiti art movement. Programs similar to Rancho Pandillero have succeeded in decreasing gang violence as much as 67% in Ciudad Jurez, Chihuahua City, and throughout Latin America, Brazil, and the United States.
The Midday Club of San Miguel de Allende is pleased to welcome Isael Gonzalez as he discusses more about this program which is doing positive work on our community. He will also answer questions related to ending the cycle of violence and redirecting our youth to better life choices. Don’t miss More Hip Hop, Less Violence on Tuesday, July 2nd. We’re located at Los Arcos next to the yellow caboose at Sterling Dickenson 27. Doors open at 9 AM with the presentation commencing at 9:30 and is free.
