By Karla Ortiz You are walking down the street, and you don’t know what to eat. You have a craving for everything, but you don’t want to settle for just a hamburger or tacos. Maybe it’s nighttime and you want to start to party, but the fact remains that you are very hungry. The Mercado del Carmen can be your salvation at a time like this. Mercado del Carmen opened its bar on the 25th and 26th of August, inviting everyone to try a little of what this market can offer. The DJ Campaelfo provided the music for the party and gave it plenty of life. Daniel Hernández was also there to help the DJ with free drinks provided by Monkey Shoulder. Daniel was in charge of delivering a bottle with a prepared “aphrodisiac” to each guest. Some of the locals had already prepared plenty of food and satisfied the hunger of the guests, who were enjoying the exciting tastes of the food. Mercado del Carmen creates the concept of an open-air market, with organic and natural aromas. The design of the wooden tables, seats, and stands gives one the feeling of being surrounded by nature. The plants that surround the premises add to the effect. The main shop is located in CDMX (Mexico City), where there are two other branches. Inside you can find ice cream, empanadas, crepes, coffee, hamburgers, steaks, Italian food, shish kebab, Mexican food, salads, choripanes (grilled chorizo on bread topped with chimichurri sauce), a clothing store with Mexican phrases written in English, and an optician with the latest in frames, and much more will be coming soon. In the future they plan to have a mini stage each week to offer live music or movie screenings, and they hope to present cultural shows as well. You can access the market at Zacateros 45 and at Pila Seca 19. It shares an entrance with El Tupinamba, Sabroso Taquería, and La Mueblería. The main entrance is on Pila Seca. From Monday to Thursday Mercado del Carmen is open from 1pm to 9pm and from Friday to Sunday from 1pm to 11pm, and the bar is open until 2am. Don’t miss the big opening in San Miguel on September 14, when all the locals will be celebrating. There will be artists and free drinks and food.
