The Expo NGO’s 2019, an event to spotlight the city’s NGOs, will take place this Thursday and Friday February 7–8. The aim of the NGO fair is to increase public awareness of what the city NGOs do and to give the organizations a
venue for recruiting. It also is meant to give them a chance to get to know one another and develop strong ties with each other.

The event, taking place mainly at the Plaza Cívica, is put on by the city’s Dirección de Vinculación con ONGs (NGOs Liaison Department). About 40 of the 120 NGOs in the municipality will attend the fair, each with a stand where they can display information about the work they do and talk more in depth with the public. The annual event is a source for both recruiting volunteers and donors and for finding clients in need of help.

Each association will give an activity, talk, or workshop open to the general public. Just some examples include a talk on hearing aid use by The Instituto de Rehabilitación y Enseñanza Especial (The Rehabilitation and Special Education Institute), a joint lecture on preserving the environmnent by Centro para los Adolescentes de San Miguel de Allende (CASA) and Acequia, a talk on palliative care by MITIGARE, and one on proper nutrition by Feed The Hungry. Vía Orgánica will put on a workshop on how to produce sprouts, and Dr Rocks Música y Arte will give a teaching concert. The NGOs Liason Department will organize a cross-organization panel entitled “Challenges
    Facing Organized Civil Society.”

Noe del Razo, an ontological coach (a kind of life goals coach) will give a keynote speech aimed at NGOs entitled “NGO, Agent of Change: Be the Transformation You Want to See” on February 8, from 2 to 4pm in Plaza de Armas. Ricardo Camacho Sanciprián, general director of the Michou y Mau Foundation, will give the expo’s other keynote speech, “Trajectory of the Association and the Prevention of Accidents,” taking place also on February 8, at 6pm, but in the La Casona Convention Center auditorium.

While all of the fair’s scheduled activities are mainly targeting the staff of the city’s NGOs, the events are all open to the public and completely free of charge.
