Please Join Us in a benefit for Leonardo Tapia JR.’s Cancer Treatments. Leo Jr. is 19 years old and is suffering from Non Hodgkins Linfoma. The treatments he has had have improved his status greatly, however, he is about half way through and we are out of money. ALL proceeds go to Leo’s medical expenses. Not only is this an opportunity to help a wonderful young man and to give back to your community but it is also a wonderful opportunity to watch and learn from some of the World’s best horse trainers, train horses in a gentle kind manner… Horse Whispering. We will have a silent auction of art, along with food and music, with ALL proceeds going to Leo… If you are interested in donating or participating please contact me, Holly Ortiz… ALL Donations are greatly appreciated.

Sacred space often plays a part of why many people have chosen to live in San Miguel de Allende. The energy felt through walking feet include the influences of underground rivers, local minerals and the indigenous peoples whose spirit remains infused within more modern traditions. Whichever the cause, the sacred lives close enough to touch for those keen to feel it.

But there is also a constant lamentation. Each creator of the spirits which have evolved into the outsized culture of the arts, celebration and civility that we all embrace, has been badly exploited and abused. We live with that too on a daily basis. It is in the air, the water and the history.

Side by side, the sacred and the profane offer us a choice.

Some, having chosen well, not only cure the world but serve as an inspiration to the rest of us.

San Miguelenses have a unique opportunity to choose well and have an extraordinary experience of sacred space in the process.

The Tapia family represents the very best of Mexico. You have seen them; on their horses leading the way on Independencia, or as Leonardo Tapia leads hundreds of Charros on Pilgrimages to Christo Rey de Cubilete. The Tapia family has long worked the rocky soils of their ranch in El Vergel.

Their wealth is not measured in money, it is measured in the mutual respect of land, horses and the others who, with blood and sweat, inhabit these Mexican traditions.

The heir to the nobility of the Tapia family relationships is Leonardo Tapia, Jr. Leonardo is a quiet, young man of 19 most comfortable, lariat in hand, on his horse. He studies Sustainable Agriculture; to preserve the lands of his ranch and this region. He loves his horses and the land. He also has cancer.

Because of the relationships cultured by the Tapias, friends, family and others have reached out to assist Leonardo receive the treatments he requires in CDMX. The cost of the treatments are not measured in nobility. They are measured in money; lots of money.

Because of their immense impact on the Charro community, word has spread all the way to the healing Horse Whisperers in the United States. World famous Anna Twinney (www.reachouttohorses.com) and Russell Hunston (professional-horseman.blogspot.com) will be in SMA to demonstrate Horse Whispering at a day-long event at Rancho del Sol Dorado. The event will include a silent auction, Café de Olla, “Cowboy Coffee,” music by David Mendoza and comida. All proceeds will go directly to the Tapia family to complete the cure for Leonardo Jr.

“No hay palabras” to explain what guests will be able to witness. How does one describe the sacred space created by communication between species? How does one account for the ability to witness such an event while offering healing to such a noble family?

One must come to find out.
