Do you add watercolor to your sketches but remain unhappy with the results? Do you feel unsure about how to use watercolor to beautify your line work rather than to simply add color? Do you feel your sketches lack punch? Does the watercolor feel flat? Are you wondering how to add drama to your sketches? Perhaps you feel much more confident drawing than painting. In this three-day workshop Laurie will address all of these issues and more.

This workshop is open to artists who have a basic practice and understanding of urban sketching and watercolors. The workshop also requires the ability to walk and stand comfortably in an urban setting.

Watercolor is a remarkable medium which, when understood, can add the wow factor that may be missing in your sketch. But to do that, you must learn how to cooperate with its unique demands. During these three days, in both studio classes and plein air instruction, Laurie will help you understand and practice key techniques that will bring watercolor drama to your sketches. She will help you embrace watercolor rather than be frustrated by it. At the end of each day you will share, review and relax with the other sketchers in the group, deepening your understanding of your own progress while enjoying the support and engagement of your colleagues.

Message from Laurie:
Over the course of this workshop I want to share with you the methods that have, over time, become essential to me in my watercolor work. Intensive study of the beautiful work of other artists helped me identify and then practice the techniques that seemed to make the difference between a good sketch and a great one. During this workshop we will add these techniques to those which you already use, moving your sketches toward an even better result!

2:00 PM: Plein air practice and one-on-one instruction in Centro’s pedestrian streets
4:30 PM: Happy Hour review at Buen Dia, Hidalgo 42
5:30 PM: End of day two

Friday, February 1, 2019
1:00 PM: Lesson in Sindicato – “SHAPES and EDGES”
3:30 PM: Plein air practice and one-on-one instruction at an inside location
5:00 PM: Final review and celebration
5:30 PM: End of workshop
