From the heights, the green color already covers a large part of the Presa Allende. It is the aquatic lily, the pest that since July of last year, began to make its appearance in the main catchment that San Miguel de Allende has.
Through Twitter @Tashi_lewis, he shared the images from the heights, where you can see that most of the water that has the Presa Allende, is already under the lily.
The water lily is a pest that forms in contaminated water.
According to the TecReview magazine of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, the scientific name of the water lily is Eichhornia crassipes in Mexico, the farmers and fishermen call it Huachinango, Jacinto, or Tamborcillo.
The water lily grows in fresh and slightly moving waters and is capable of doubling its population in a period of 5 to 15 days.
At the beginning of the year, work began to try to de-silt the Allende Dam, but the hands of the fishermen who participated in the Municipal Government’s Temporary Employment program were not enough to stop it from spreading.
Since March, a de-silting machine has been trying to remove as many plants as possible, but as the dam is being drained, the lily runs through what is left free of water and accumulates again in the same place where the machine is working.
