To feel truly at home in San Miguel you must visit this classic with different spaces, for every taste or occasion for more than 30 years. Restaurant service in the central courtyard area and terrace. Handmade pizzas and pastas. Live music.
This perennially popular place has separate areas for differing entertainment puposes; hit Mama’s Bar for live rock/funk on Fridays and Saturdays (or karaoke on weeknights), or join a more sophisticated crowd in the restaurant patio for live folk music (check the changing schedule). Up front, Bar Leonardo’s shows big-screen sports and La Terrazza, the terrace bar, offers a fine view of the town.
The joint gets going by 11pm – Calendar
Mama Mia is actually several bars housed in one building. Each bar has a different character. They have live music in the main room every night beginning at 8, and in other rooms later at night. Friday and Saturday nights are Cuban Salsa nights. Mama Mia is a pretty shabby bar that is very, very popular with young people and is mostly frequented by tourists and eschewed by locals as a “tourist trap.” That being said, you are a tourist, so you might want to check it out.

Yes, I agree the new Mama Mia is lovely with widely spaced tables in the courtyard, some under cover and some in the open. We had lunch there yesterday. The mango margaritas were so good that we had to have two, one on the rocks and one frozen. I started with the pumpkin soup, which was very good, but I don’t think it was pumpkin. Maybe squash? Then I had the spaghetti carbonara, also quite good. Hubby had chicken fajitas which he thought was excellent. After that, we staggered off to buy some Rancho Viejo chicken on Canal and then a cab home. A nice nap completed the excellent day.
