Last night my husband and friend and I escaped the halloween crowds around the Jardin to have a spectacular dinner at the cozy restaurant in the heart of San Antonio called L’escargot. It was easy to find, on Refugio between Esperanza and Tesoro, quite close to the more well known frame shop, Lavinias. There was plenty of off street parking. We were warmly welcomed and treated attentively by Jesus and his wife Elly (Elizabeth). My husband ordered sole, and said it was the best fish he’d ever eaten, with the crepes suzette topping off his meal “to die for” (and my husband is a connoisseur of desserts.) I had filet with bernaise sauce which was tender and juicy in its lick the plate sauce (which I refrained from doing) and our friend enjoyed the rack of lamb. I will go back to this place every chance I get and feel deep gratitude that San Miguel de Allende has such restaurant offerings as this one.
My friend and I shared a wonderful meal there this past week -delicious lobster bisque, fresh salad and flavorful – CroquevMonsieur sandwich
It is on Calle Refugio just down from Calle Esperanza On the right hand side. Large open gate with courtyard – and a lovely decorated home in the back – which is the restaurant – the atmosphere is very warm and inviting -like a little french bistro
There were two other table – 7 other diners and all were very pleased with their meals too.
Rlly and Jesus, the owners are very kind and give very personal service
They accept the VIP card 10% off too!
I wanted to share my delight in discovering this lovely intimaterestaurant with friendly, helpful owners, a delicious menu(the salmon crepes are a must) and a large parking lot.I had lunch, and now look forward to trying their dinner menu. Hope you will experience it soon.
We had dinner at L’escargot last night. On Refugio Sur across from the custom frame shop. Great dinner experience. Had the Cream of Asparagus soup as a starter. Smooth, rich with a lot of flavor. We shared the Chateaubriand for two. They cooked each portion separately (rare and semi-rare) to our individual taste. The home-made Bernaise sauce was excellent. The restaurant design gives an authentic French flavor in a warm environment. The owners provided personal and friendly service.
We don’t know the operators, or have any involvement with this restaurant, but post this report to support this new restaurant. It was quiet there last night (rain?) and we hope it s successful as we will definitely return to try other food options. A great addition to the SMA restaurant scene. Give it a try. Oh, and they take the VIP card.
I just wanted the readers to know that my husband and I had decided to visit this restaurant when we saw the very first (positive) review.. We had dinner there last night and it was excellent. I had the escargot as an appetizer, my husband had the French onion soup. I had the spinach and brie crepes for my main course and he had the beef Wellington. We shared a bottle of the house merlot and everything was very, very good. Our host (Jesus) and hostess (Elly) were friendly and attentive. The ambience was very close to replicating a charming, intimate French bistro. There is street parking (also more available through the main entry). There are several other items on the menu we are looking forward to trying. A very pleasant experience. Please go and see for yourselves. Susan
We found the owners very congenial and accommodating and the atmosphere pleasant. We are serious eaters and have eaten in top restaurants in many countries. Some of their dishes are among the best in town, e.g., the pate and the Steak Diane,a dish that’s not served frequently any more and was excellent.
