Originally founded in 1920, the “Manantial” Cantina (cantina means “spring” or “water source” in Spanish), offers excellent refreshing cocktails and exquisite culinary specialties direct from the Mexican Pacific coast. Our cuisine is based in fish and seafood. Because of its freshness and simplicity it is perfect to enjoy with our famous “Ginger Margarita” or the coldest “Michelada” beer in town.
At lunch time or for a special dinner our dishes in this historic corner of San Miguel are perfect to delightfully sustain you the rest of the day or to get you ready for a long night of partying. Also, we guarantee to cure your hangover the next day. Our clients are a nice mix of locals and tourists, Mexicans and people from all over the world. This diversity creates a friendly and cosmopolitan atmosphere for all tastes and ages. Some of “The Manantial” favorites are: “Artichoke with Celery Dip”; “Fish Strips or Ceviche Tostada”; “Octopus Carpaccio”; “Chile Stuffed with Cheese and Beans”; “Shrimp and Bacon Tacos”, and there is so much more.
Do yourself a favor, enter El Manantial’s Cantina Doors and taste a piece of the coast right here, in the heart of San Miguel de Allende.
Behind the swinging doors of a former saloon, ‘The Spring’ serves fabulously fresh ceviche. It’s got a real buzz, also helped by jabanero salsa, the spiciest of chili sauces that will put hair on your chest. Tuesdays is two-for-one drinks, while Thursday offers up two-for-one nibbles.
(Warning: we suggest you don’t pile the jabanero sauce on like the hardy locals here, a little goes a looong way). Be sure to try one of their ginger margaritas (M$65).
