Dr. Emilio Ramirez is the director of critical care medicine at Joya hospital. He also works as an Emergency physican and sees patients in his own consultorio.
A very popular doctor and excellent colleague, he is a welcome addition to our team. He is a specialist and board-certified emergency physician with more than 22 years of experience in emergency rooms, 17 of those years in private medicine working as an ER physician in an American hospital in Puerto Vallarta (Amerimed), and as the chairman of Emergency Services in the IMSS hospital in Puerto Vallarta.
As an Emergency Physician, he is committed to ensuring that an ER physician is available at all times because, as everyone knows, in an emergency… TIME IS LIFE.
Emergency Medicine is one of the most complete and critical medical specialties because it is the only one that needs to know how to manage an acute crisis across all medical disciplines. To adequately prepare for this challenge the training and skills of an ER physician are much broader and deeper than for other specialty physicians.
Some of the most critical situations it covers are stroke, cardiac arrest, heart attack, GI bleeding, trauma (all varieties – car accidents, gunshots, stab wounds, fractures, head trauma, etc) Uncontrolled hypertension, complications related to diabetes, respiratory failure, coma and shock among many others.

My wife and I were in SMA for 3 months during the winter or 2021 when she began to experience acute abdominal pain that had her doubled over and laying on the floor. During normal times we would have gone to an Urgent Care Center or possibly the ER. However, during covid times, neither of these options seemed optimal so I searched for an MD who would make house calls. I came across Dr. Ramirezs’ name in several places and upon learning that he was the ER Director at the MAC reached out to him. He arrived within 90′, spent about 30′ with my wife, diagnosed her with her first ever episode of a gall bladder attack, provided a shot and oral medications, which allowed her to sleep through the night pain free. He speaks very good English and is a very kind and caring physician. He was a god-send to us and if you need a doc with ER experience, who makes house calls, charges reasonable fees and has a caring bedside manner, look no further!
My doctor, who hasn’t been wrong yet in several years of seeing him, is Dr. Emilio Ramírez. He used to be the medical director of UNIMED and is now seeing patients at Mac Hospital. I think he’s terrific – an excellent doctor and a kind and loving man. Good English, too.
