I had a very bad experience on the money/payment side of the Unimed business. And it IS a business.
Contact me for details.
I had a gall bladder emergency and went to Unamed to figure out what was wrong. They ran a multitude of tests. Because it was an emergency facility my Medicare provider reimbursed me for all the tests.
Just good to know.
I highly recommend Dr. Ramirez and his team at UNIMED. I went to see Dr. Ramirez about a month ago and was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. Dr. Ramirez called a surgeon ( Dr. Flores) and arranged for me to see him at UNIMED in a couple of days.
I had the surgery last Friday and everything went perfectly.
The care I received May 2019 was far better than any I had received in the US. It was for an emergency, not a chronic issue. The staff helped me into a wheelchair then into bed. I had IVs, medications, and I could relax knowing that I was in the best hands.
The facility was gleaming, spotless. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, caring. I especially want to thank Dr. Ricardo, whom I credit with saving my life. His fluent English helped me relate my health issue to him without feeling as if I might be misunderstood.
I am blessed to live close to this facility and while I hope I do not need to go back, I know I will be well taken care of if I do.
We visited Unimed in SMA in early May of 2019. My cousin, 85 years old, was having problems with anxiety. We were seen by a doctor very quickly. After taking blood pressure, high, the doctor asked where we were from and immediately recognized the problem. We live on the coast of the U.S., at sea level. The altitude of SMA exacerbated my cousin’s bp, causing sleepliness, causing fatigue, causing anxiety. With RX in hand we went to a pharmacy a few doors away. Problem solved.
We returned 2 days later for a bp check and all was well. Total cost for medical services was $35, U.S.
I just recently had emergency surgery at Uni-Med. From the moment I arrived till I left 3 days later, the care I received was the absolute best I could of hoped for. Doctors, nurses and staff were all professional, caring and amazing individuals. I wouldn’t hesitate for a moment to visit there for any health care needs.
My husband is fighting stage four cancer. The drugs that keep him alive cause many side effects. We use Unimed as our Go-To and could not be happier. True; it is a small hospital clinic but the lab is next door and they have a surgical theatre, MRI, Catscan and ambulances staffed with EMT’s. He is there once a week for one thing or another and the car is always top notch. Great team!
I experienced fantastic care at Unimed. I had an emergency appendectomy and was operated on and in the hospital for 5 days. I experienced the very best care and I will use them as my go to medical care all the time now.
I recently had to take my husband to ER and he was admitted for 5 days of care. We went to Unimed. While a tiny hospital at only 8 beds; it was immaculate, new, professional, and caring. Dr. Ramirez oversaw my husband’s treatment but all the physicians were capable. There is a physician on duty 24/7 which is not true at some of the others. There is always one English speaking person on duty though we frequently used a translation app. They have MRI, Catscan, lab onsite and the pharmacy is just next door for out-patient scripts. They have their own ambulances with paramedic unlike the Red Cross ambulances. The total bill was just over 3k. It is now our hospital of choice. All the best with your visiting guest> May they not need it.
I have had mixed experience with hospital H , my husband having some ongoing issues after a stroke because of it taking four hours for a doctor to arrive and then her not doing anything for him
We are now signed up with patient advocacy group Be Well SN Miguel. They use Unimed and our cardiologist they recommended has said she is making sure Unimed emergency physicians are trained with the latest procedures for strokes and heart attacks immediately upon arrival. Plus they have an MRI
and no other hospitals do, which in his case was pretty significant.
Be well also programs your phone with a button that calls the ambulance and them immediately. They supply patient advocacy and make sure things like the bill are equitable and you get the right specialist from the area or get moved if need be.
We also have a stick with our health history so they have all that data immediately.
This makes me feel more at peace as we also intend we won’t need it of course.
I’m looking forward to a time all the San Miguel hospitals are up to speed and equitable in their rates.
They will get there by all of us insisting they do.

I was very happy with my care at H+ and their prices were extremely reasonable compared to US hospital prices. I was there overnight in a very nice private room, had CatScan, blood work and emergency services from for physician and it came to about $900 US including the physician fees.
Comparable in the U.S. would be about $9K, easily. I know because I worked in a hospital as a discharge planner for almost 10 years.
For those of you still counting positive experiences with Unimed Urgent Care, I’d like to tell about my 5 great ones ——-and in some detail so that you can get an idea of how they might help you fill in a gap with your healthcare while in San Miguel.
1. I’d been having some heart palpitations in the US and had been checked out , but they got much more frequent when I first arrived in December, and they were waking me up at night. On a Saturday I couldn’t even walk home from Centro without them starting up. I got stressed thinking that perhaps this was a serious warning sign and I didn’t want to waste even the weekend worrying about them, so I walked into Urgent Care at Unimed. The doctor could take me right away. He listened carefully to my heart and ordered an EKG (which they did right then and there, and sent to Colombia (the country) digitally to be read by a cardiologist. EKG and reading cost $32. The report came back within an hour. He studied the meds I was on and taking all into consideration was able to order an old, common blood pressure med (cheap and available) for me that calmed the palpitations down. He asked me to come back in a week or sooner if I needed, to see how I was doing (for free). This appointment cost the usual price of a consult at Unimed about $40 US. It all worked so well, and I was so relieved.
2. My tummy didn’t feel right. Having had an aggressive lymphoma 2 years ago which manifested itself with a large mass in my abdomen (and aorta) I feared that the cancer had returned. Again it wasn’t regular hours that I decided I was too stressed out and needed to see what they could do for me. The doctora palpated my abdomen carefully and ordered an complete ultrasound of my abdomen. Quick answer there. The pictures all looked fine. The ultrasound about $73 US. She also ordered the blood work that the doctors at MD Anderson in Houston told me to have done if I was concerned about relapse. About $48 US. That all came out fine. Imaging and lab work is all done in the facility located in the back of the building. What a relief! Again, this regular consult with the doctor cost about $40 US ($700 pesos- whether it’s urgent care or scheduled 24/7). The peace of mind this appointment gave me was worth many times more pesos than that! I could relax right away.
3. I had some kind of flu/bronchitis for days and then got a urinary tract infection. I tried to treat it myself with a sulfa drug, but it proved resistant. Then I took some Levaquin that another doc had prescribed and got a terrible allergic reaction! This happened on “off hours” and I was really itching, and I was scared. This all happened on a Friday or Saturday evening. The doctora at Unimed had the nurse start an IV and gave me a non-narcotic pain med, a potent anti-inflammatory, Zantac IV to protect my stomach, and a different antibiotic to kick-start the new antibiotic treatment. Then she prescribed 2 antibiotics to take at home. I went back to the apartment totally comfortable. IV supplies $91 US, meds $60 US. She also ordered an ultrasound for later to rule out kidney stones. Ultrasound of kidneys $32 US. I googled around when I got back to find that the doctora had ordered exactly the antibiotics that the various medical sites recommended. What a big relief, again! And I got on the right path to recovery just before my grandkids came for a visit. I must say I perfectly understood when my treatment got delayed because an motor accident patient was admitted and needed to be stabilized by the team and readied to go to surgery. I was there in Urgent Care for about 3 hours. This doctor consult was more involved and so cost me $57 US.
4. After I finished my antibiotic from the urinary tract infection I was still having a fair amount of flank pain, so I walked in again and another doctor read my history and ordered up a urine test. (I told him I didn’t want a big, old work up yet.) This follow up was gratis. The urine test was about $5 US. He also recommended a non-narcotic, non-analgesic (they hurt my stomach) pain med for me in the meantime.
5. On a Sunday I accompanied a friend and we walked into Unimed again. His flu bug had eventually lead to bronchitis and he just couldn’t shake the bronchitis it seemed. The bronchitis had lead to severe fatigue and a troubling rapid heart beat. The doctor examined him carefully and listened to his lungs and heart forever it seemed. My friend was concerned about lung cancer, too, because of his history. The doctor ordered a chest X-ray to rule out the lung cancer and relieve his mind, and then he ordered several blood tests to check for anemia and other suspects, and a stool sample for blood, parasites and ova. The lab and imaging people were “on call” and would come in for $20 US—it was a Sunday. My friend didn’t want to make a fuss and decided to get all the work done the next day. Such a relief—no lung cancer! And they found ova (round worm eggs—a VERY common infection around here.) Which could well account for all of his symptoms. He decided to have more of a work up with his regular doc later in town, but this sure relieved his mind right now.
My annual snowbird stay was a bit more difficult health-wise this year as many people’s was. Maybe Unimed Urgent Care could help you too.
I’VE ALSO HAD A VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE with UNIMED…..THE BEST NEW MED MACHINE I’V EVER SEEN in SAN MIGUEL…..VERY INEXPENSIVE, NEW & CLEAN……I'M so HAPPY to have this PLACE in SAN MIGUEL to go to for EMERGENCY….THANK YOU UNIMED,,,,,,AMALIN
Our house guest cut her finger very badly last night at 10 p.m.. while doing the dishes. Stitches would be required. While she set off with my partner to ride by cab to Unimed, I phoned Unimed and advised that a woman would be arriving in 15 minutes and would require treatment and stitches to a cut hand. My friend arrived and was told that she would have to wait for 45 minutes for a doctor to arrive. Instead, my friend went immediately to H Mas hospital and was treated immediately. She says it was a very good experience.
Of course, this was not a life threatening injury. Apart from other recent posts regarding fees, equipment and other problems at Unimed, it is not comforting to think that one might arrive at Unimed in serious trouble and have to wait for a doctor’s attention. H Mas has been and will continue to be where I go when I need help.
My experience so far is that Unimed is Just great during the week but NOT on the weekends! Most bad experiences reported seem to have happened on weekends. Its a shame but I’d always choose H+ if its Sat. Sun or a holiday.
I had outpatient surgery there a month or so ago and felt I was incredibly overcharge – 15,000 peoe for 4 minuteS in the OR. The same that my sugreon, assistant surgeon and anesthetist charged all together. Also, took a friend there in severe pain – none of their imaging equipment is available on weekends because they do not have a radiologist to read the results. My internist suggested we go to H+ where everything went well. My internist now has a consultorio at the MAC Hospital and is very pleased with it and thinks that their fees are very fair.

A few months ago I had a high fever for a week, and a terrible rash that started at my feet, and later covered my entire body- something i had never seen before, and there was nothing on WebMD that could begin to explain it.
I got a taxi to UNIMED, and they immediately brought a physician. After an exam, and several lab tests, he patiently explained the results to me. After 4 hours in the hospital, I looked at the total bill … only $162 USD. And the prescribed medication worked quickly.
My experience at UNIMED was a good one.

I was hospitalized at Unimed with a torn rotator cuff. The personnel starting with the reception desk, the admitting doctor Dr. Emillio, the surgical team led by Dr. Felipe Rangel, and the nurses could not have been nicer, more helpful, more patient. All spoke Spanish and English. The facility is modern and spotless, my private room spacious and comfortable. The procedure was explained in detail. The surgery went well, the post-op and follow-up was professional. Dr. Rangel gave me the video of the operation and I viewed it with the doctor who took the time to explain what he did.
Having a facility like Unimed in San Miguel staffed by professionals should be acknowledged, recognized, and appreciated.

Yesterday our young daughter accidently cut her leg. Based on the excellent medical service postings on Civil San Miguel, we took her to UNIMED Health Systems on Carretera Celaya for treatment. As promised their care was professional and most important, they were very compassionate with a four year old in confusion and pain. The cost was very modest.
Without the positive postings on Civil San Miguel we would not have known about UNIMED. Civil San Miguel provides a extremely beneficial service to the community.
THANKS TO BOTH ENTITIES !
Jim
UNIMED has their own lab now. X-ray, Ultrasound, CT Scan, MRI and Mammogram – all new state of the art equipment.
Saludos

Last weekend the power went out in our house and my wife fell and broke her arm in the dark. A good friend drove her to Unimed Health Center (across from La Comer) where she stayed for 2 days. Dr. Ismail Murillo performed the necessary surgery.
The service at Unimed was excellent. There was 24 nurse care, private patient room, an operating room, full x-ray and testing equipment, all handled in a professional manner by the staff of the Director of the facilities, Dr. Emilio Ramirez. We would highly recommend this facility for any one who needs emergency medical care.
And, as before in her hip surgery, Dr. Ismail Murillo proved he is one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the state. His professional, relaxed manner was well appreciated and he showed his concern for top patient care at every opportunity. He also reviewed the billing for Unimed services to ensure it was reasonable and accurate.
My wife is now recovering very fast, with no pain, but a gnarly scar on her arm. As for the power problem, CFE promised to come for 3 days, after which I had to call my electrician to fix a connection at the meter.

We just completed a tour of the new UNIMED facility located at Plaza 4 Quince, Salida a Ceyala No. 3 or across from La Comer. To say we were impressed is an understatement! UNIMED is much more than an ER or Urgent Care facility, although it is certainly that! Already installed is an X-Ray machine, CAT Scan, Mammogram and the MRI installation is almost completed and more that I can’t remember! A full lab is also being added and in addition to the two existing patient rooms they are adding 8 more. The surgical suite with operating room and recovery room was extremely professional and top-quality. And a heart cath capability is also on the way.
The staff is fully bi-lingual and an ER trained doctor is on site 24 hours with any necessary specialists readily available. All four of us were extremely impressed. And then we took a “tour” of the ambulance!
Their ambulance service is fully staffed by trained EMT’s and the array of equipment on board was very impressive, including the ability to incubate in the ambulance. The ambulance always has a driver and a trained, certified EMT on board and is ready to roll.
If that isn’t enough, they also offer air ambulance service for quick evacuation if necessary.
Finally, the kicker for me was that they accept medical insurance (after verification, of course) of my insurance plan which is Medicare Advantage from Memorial Herman in Houston.
The Medical Director and Doctor of Emergency Medicine happens to be one of my neighbors so he invited us over for a tour and wow are we glad we went. His name is Dr. Emilio Ramirez.

This is a welcome facility and capability for San Miguel. Very well equipped; professionally staffed; convenient; accept insurance and credit cards and are always ready to roll. Well worth a visit and definitely the first call we will make in an emergency.

Yesterday I was at a large Easter dinner gathering, and during the activities, I stood up from my chair and went into a dead faint!
Folks said I just gracefully floated to the ground, landing on my back. I was immediately tended to by wonderful, caring people, then taken by friends to an emergency medical facility called UNIMED, located across from La Comer, between the Guadalajara Pharmacy and the mall.
The service was excellent, it was determined that my blood pressure had dropped to a very low level, thus causing the faint.bvbvOtherwise, I was pronounced fine, given a prescription and taken home to rest and recover. We went there because Joey Merrifield, also at the event, said that we should go there. GRACIAS Joey!
I just want to shout out for this facility, which I believe is a much-needed addition to our community. They are open 24/7, with a board-certified emergency physician always in attendance. This is a great resource, life-saving, in my case –
Many thanks to UNIMED!

UNIMED is a first rate, first world trauma center with excellent staff. I was hospitalized there for 5 days a month ago and can’t say enough about their care, concern and excellent treatment. It far exceeded any hospitalization in the states. The medical Director Emilio Ramirez also sees primary care patients during the week and is a great generalist, They arranged a complex surgery two weeks ago for a client of mine bringing in a great team of orthopedists from Celaya and the administrative director Julio Carbajal actually negotiate a medivac at no cost to patient with Kaiser. Stop by and meet the staff. They are near pharmacy Guadalajara across from Mega. , Deborah Bickel from Bewellsanmiguel.com
Excellent surgical experience at Unimed
Just adding to the chorus of praise for the new Unimed Emergency Hospital located directly across the Salida a Celaya from the side entrance of Mega/La Comer. My Orthopedist chose to perform a surgery on my elbow at that location this morning and I can see why. The facility is spotless and well equipped to provide 24/7 Emergency Care as well as surgeries. The staff, including ambulance personnel are fully bi-lingual which comes in handy in stressful situations. They also provide air evac services when needed. Everything worked like clockwork and the entire experience was quite reassuring and easy for a wimp like me. No waiting around, very nice and attentive nurses, they work with U.S. Insurance companies etc. They saw the need for an immediate response capability and are ready with well trained personnel to handle emergencies in a flash. It would definitely be my 1st choice for a heart attack, stroke or any other condition where time is of the essence. Also my preference for pre-scheduled surgeries now that I’ve tried it!
