Finally found a tender, juicy filet mignon. We had a delicious dinner last night at Mon Bistro.
The chicken liver pate was wonderful, as was the caesar salad. My filet mignon was prepared perfectly with a wonderful reduction sauce. I was so happy to find a place where I could get a good filet! We topped it off with a home-made apple pie that was “to die” for, of course with ice cream! Yum.
Just returned from an excellent dinner at Mon Bistro in their new location at the clubhouse at Ventana’s.
The new room is beautiful with a wonderful view and great ambiance. The food was delicious. I highly recommend it. It was so nice to enjoy a quiet, relaxing evening at a beautiful restaurant with great food away from all the noisy crowds in Centro. It was a treat!
Mon Bistro has relocated from San Miguel de Allende to Los Labradores on the road to Dolores Hidalgo. Not only is the food delicious but we were blown away by the incredible views over the fields and all the way to the surrounding mountains and San Miguel de Allende which is about 20 minutes down the road. The owner, Gilles, has built small private balconies on each side of the restaurant which is on the 4th floor of the hotel in Los Labradores. We shall we returning here many times.
We just had a wonderful meal with 6 of us at Mon Bistro Restaurant out in Los Labradores on Friday night. The food was delicious, classic French, steaks, fish, cesar salad, french onion soup – wonderful atmosphere and a guitar player in the background really added to our evening, not to mention a rockin’ thunder & lightening storm!
They also have some amazing art on the walls. Owner, Gilles Vachon has partnered with the Galeria San Francisco and is featuring 3 of their artists: Susan Santiago, Jane Dill and Robert Sweeny. All the artwork is for sale, so it’s a great opportunity to appreciate local San Miguel art and reach a new audience.
Definitely worth the trip out to Los Labradores (our first time there). Reservations – call 415-121-6386. They welcome the VIP card too.

We thoroughly enjoyed dinner last weekend at Mon Bistro in their new location at Rancho Los Labradores. Onion soup, caesar salad, filet mignons, and yes, martinis were all perfectly prepared and delicious. Gilles’ oversight, attentive service, unlimited views and very talented musician add to make it the perfect evening. Underground parking available which is great for rainy season.

We had the pleasure of dining at this new location and were wonderfully pleased. Reservations were easy, entrance to the gated community was without delay and the venue was first rate. We particularly enjoyed the opportunity of dining on a private balcony ( off of the main dining room) that had a spectacular view. We were fortunate to take in a gorgeous rain storm in the distance. Our meals were first rate.
I had the Boeuf Bourguignon and it was wonderful. My husband had the house specialty: Parmesan flambé. The presentation was excellent and the dish was superb. I would possibly suggest sharing this meal as it is quite substantial. However my husband enjoyed leftovers today for lunch. The owners (Gilles and Alexis) were very gracious and our waiter Diego most accommodating. Caesar salad (we shared) was very good and dessert (sweet pizza) was delicious.
This is a place not to be missed!

I had the best steak for dinner tonight that I’ve had in the 6.5 years I’ve
lived in San Miguel. I asked for my filet mignon to be cooked rare, the
acid test of good meat, and it was cooked perfectly. It was
melt-in-your-mouth tender, full of flavor (grass fed), and served with a
sauce that was out of this world. The owner, Gilles, told me that the only
other place in town that serves this meat is the Rosewood. 265 pesos, with
perfect mashed potatoes and asparagus.
Mon Bistro restaurant, Canadian, at Mesones #56 near Reloj, closed Mondays.

We ate there this weekend also and liked it very much. Great tamarind I margarita. I posted a review on Trip Advisor. That is even better for them
Yesterday we had a lovely evening at Mon Bistro Restaurant.
The food was very good and the menu has a range of dishes from salads to soups, sandwiches, and main courses of prime beef, chicken and seafood. We especially enjoyed the salmon served over spinach and accompanied with a creamy shrimp sauce and the chicken cooked with a bouquet of fresh vegetables and a touch of maple syrup. There are classic French dishes and one of the most popular is Coq au Vin.
The building has been remodeled by the owner, Gilles who is originally from Canada and also is the creator of the menu with his own recipes. The space is cool due to the exposed stone walls and there are separate dining spaces, one with a table for two and a larger one for private groups.
We were intrigued to see exposed arches of an old tunnel that runs under the building, too!
Gilles is an attentive and pleasant host and his lovely wife Alexandra will be happy to make reservations for you. Tuesday, May 10th, there will be live music.
I, too, was at Mon Bistro and enjoyed it so much that I went back the next night. It was a treat to hear Doug Robinson and Ken Bassman improve some cool jazz in a very intimate setting. The Ceasar salad and French onion soup were the best I’ve had in all of San Miguel. This is a gem of a restaurant.

Mon Bistro, new restaurant in town
I second Judith’s recommendation for Mon Bistro – 56 Mesones! We had an excellent evening in their beautiful restaurant.… Doug Robinson and Ken Bassman played incredible jazz to accompany our delicious meal. Bravo!

My husband had the seafood stew at Mon Bistro and said it was so good he could eat it every day. The owner told us he got the recipe 20 years ago from a chef in a restaurant outside Boston! After eating it himself the first time he knew he HAD to have the recipe. Full of seafood. Yummy.
I had the coq au vin which was very good. Rich in mushroom flavor, a great wine and cognac sauce and fall-off-the-bone chicken.
