Greek cuisine has a long tradition and its flavors change with the season and its geography. Greek cookery, historically a forerunner of Western cuisine, spread its culinary influence – via ancient Rome – throughout Europe and beyond. It has influences from the different people’s cuisine the Greeks have interacted with over the centuries, as evidenced by several types of sweets and cooked foods.
It was Archestratos in 320 B.C. who wrote the first cookbook in history. Greece has a culinary tradition of some 4,000 years. Ancient Greek cuisine was characterized by its frugality and was founded on the “Mediterranean triad”: wheat, olive oil, and wine, with meat being rarely eaten and fish being more common. This trend in Greek diet continued in Roman and Ottoman times and changed only fairly recently when technological progress has made meat more available. Wine and olive oil have always been a central part of it and the spread of grapes and olive trees in the Mediterranean and further afield is correlated with Greek colonization.
The Byzantine cuisine was similar to the classical cuisine including however new ingredients that were not available before, like caviar, nutmeg and lemons, basil, with fish continuing to be an integral part of the diet. Culinary advice was influenced by the theory of humors, first put forth by the ancient Greek doctor Claudius Aelius Galenus. Byzantine cuisine benefited from Constantinople’s position as a global hub of the spice trade.

Have had Sylvia’s liver with caramelized onions twice, and this week lamb chops. They were cooked to perfection. Going to have at least one meal a week from Sylvia. Delicious.
Greece on Wheels delivered a delicious Easter dinner of ham and brussel sprouts to my door. I added some scalloped potatoes and an apple crisp because I love to cook but not all the time. It was fabulous!! I highly recommend Sylvia’s food. You can see her menu at Greeceonwheels.com.mx
I would like to give a thank you to Sylvia. I have been ordering food from her for a couple of years. Last year after a hip replacement she went out of her way to make us our favorites even though they weren’t on the menu for the week. Again after a double knee replacement she has done it again. The quality of the food is wonderful. Everything is fresh and natural. She has a weekly menu.

After failing at both Costco locations to find Spanikopita, I decided to try Greece on Wheels (Sylvia Stamatakis) out of desperation. What I was happy to find out is that the bite-sized pieces were bigger and better than Costco’s and were delivered to my door for a ridiculously low price!
Recommend you try her for that and other items as well!

While owner is hard working and makes an effort to produce good Greek food I have ordered a few items and with the exception of one small pastry item I have been very disappointed – since I know quality Greek food, the preparations are just not what I regard as well done. I am afraid I can’t recommend, based on taste. There is however only 2 sources for authentic Greek food in town, and so far the other one has measured up with more flavorful preparations.
There is NO other place for Greek food in town. There is a Lebanese place and a Turkish restaurant but NO Greek.
