Club Rotario Smart organized a golf tournament to raise funds for dialysis clinic in San Miguel de Allende, in order to attend to the needs of the people of San Miguel de Allende.
Due to the high demand for dialysis treatments in San Miguel de Allende and municipalities in the region, the Club Rotario Samrt is seeking resources for the construction of a dialysis clinic that will help people with limited resources. To this end, this Friday 18 October they will hold a golf tournament with a cause, in which they plan to raise 600,000 pesos, so that in March 2025 the construction of the clinic, which will be located at the Doctor Mora exit, will begin.
Joshua Cervantes, president of the Smart Rotary Club, based in San Miguel de Allende, said that they are working hand in hand with the J. Socorro López Foundation, which offers dialysis treatments, and Covintec, a construction company that works with concrete-coated panels.
‘Many people tell us how we are going to build a clinic with 600,000 pesos. We already have the land and the Covintec foundation is joining us to do the construction. We already have the plan and they are supporting us by subsidizing the material,’ he said.
The tournament will be held at the Ventanas golf club under the A GoGo format, with teams of three players. The cost per player is 4,500 pesos and 120 participants are expected. The best players will be rewarded, as more than 400,000 pesos in prizes will be awarded, as well as prizes for the five ‘hole-in-ones’, ranging from golf carts to a country estate and a Toyota Yaris 2024 car.
The event will start at 9am and registration will be open until minutes before the tournament starts. In addition, there will be auctions, as all prizes were donated by sponsors.
The Smart Rotary Club plans for the clinic to begin operations by the end of 2025, offering care to patients from San Miguel de Allende and the region, with affordable costs based on socio-economic studies.
Currently, they are working on putting together the team to operate the clinic and looking for a nephrologist to join the project, as well as arranging for the necessary equipment for its operation.
‘The need is tremendous, in the municipality there is a private clinic that is saturated and charges 2,000 pesos for ‘la conectada’. On average, people are spending between 20 and 25,000 pesos a month for dialysis,’ said Joshua, who stressed that they will seek to grow so that the service can benefit people in neighboring municipalities.
This is the second golf tournament organized by the Smart Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende. Last year they held the first edition, in which they managed to raise the necessary funds for the purchase of an endoscope that is currently in operation at the Red Cross sub-delegation of the municipality.
