Often newcomers are at a loss as to what to do when they get sick or are in need of medical care. The good news is that there are very good physicians and health practitioners right here in San Miguel de Allende.

Be Well is a patient advocacy service that makes it their business to identify the best practitioners and hospitals for their members. The number of well-trained English speaking clinicians has soared over the seven years that Be Well has been in business. This is good news for expatriates but can also present a challenge identifying which physicians and other health and wellness professionals are adequately trained and certified. Be Well keeps an active list of the best trained and most highly regarded health practitioners here in SMA, Celaya and Querétaro. We also make recommendations and supervise qualified home care workers. And in a new service offered by Be Well , we can provide oversight and support for clients in need of extra assistance with the necessary activities of daily life.

By joining Be Well, members enjoy a 15% discount on hospital care at Joya Hospital and free ambulance services from the company associated with Joya  Hospital (Bay Watch). They employ fully trained paramedics and their vehicles are equipped to handle complex emergencies. An added and appreciated service is  free transport home after hospitalization.

Finally , members are encouraged to develop a plan in the event of an emergency. We can help you decide if you might be better served by getting care in the states or here in Mexico. While we do not sell insurance, we can help you decide which types of insurance might serve you best including recommendations for additional emergency services such as evacuation plans.

Just a reminder that Be Well San Miguel Patient Advocacy Services is back in action with new staff and expanded capacities to meet the growing needs of our clients. As  Advocates we have varying skills that can help improve your health and improve the quality of day to day life. We can and do:

·      Help you proactively manage your medical and health needs

·      Accompany you to office visits and procedures

·      Create, organize and translate your medical records

·      Help you prepare for future health emergencies

·      Provide education concerning your medication and wellness plans

·      Assist in creating your advance directives and other end of life decisions

·      Manage end of life care as directed by yourself, your family or loved ones.

·      Help with insurance claims

·      Assistance with daily tasks such as finding a good driver, banking,  getting up to speed on using that new cell phone or computer

·      Managing household staff

·      Assistance with online tasks such as money transfers and general banking both here and in the US

Should you be hospitalized in Mexico we are able to:

Remain at your bedside and communicate on your behalf with medical staff during hospitalization

Coordinate and assist with post hospitalization and home care

Oversee the accuracy and fairness of hospital and insurance billing
