Guanajuato promotes indigenous sports groups through the “State Indigenous Sports Meeting 2022”.

    The Government of the State of Guanajuato through the Ministry of Social and Human Development (SEDESHU) and the Sports Commission (CODE) in coordination with the municipal administration of Victoria held the “Indigenous State Sports Meeting 2022” at the facilities of the Municipal Sports Unit of Victoria, Guanajuato.

    This event was attended by 150 young athletes from the municipalities of Apaseo el Alto, Comonfort, Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional, San Miguel de Allende, Salvatierra, San Luis de la Paz, and Victoria, who competed in the disciplines of men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s volleyball, and women’s volleyball; and women’s volleyball, with the objective of representing Guanajuato in the next “Encuentro Nacional Deportivo Indígena 2022” which will take place from September 26th to October 1st in the state of Morelos.

    The winning municipal delegations of this sporting event were: Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional with basketball in its two modalities and men’s soccer, San Luis de la Paz with women’s soccer, Apaseo el Alto with women’s volleyball, San Miguel de Allende with men’s athletics and Victoria with women’s athletics.

    During the inauguration of the meeting, the mayor of Victoria, Mr. Juan Diego Ramírez Rincón, pointed out that his municipality has hosted events that benefit the indigenous people of Guanajuato and reiterated his willingness to work in favor of this population.

    Likewise, Mr. Miguel Angel Alfaro Manrique, coordinator of attention to vulnerable groups and representative of SEDESHU, commented on the importance of the 96 indigenous localities for the Government of the State of Guanajuato and explained that the “Contigo Sí” strategy aims to address the human development of these groups.

    Finally, Prof. Romualdo Hernandez Chavez, director of physical culture and representative of CODE, referred to the achievements of the State Government in sports and asked the participating municipal delegations for their commitment to achieve a competitive tournament and raise the name of our state in the national meeting.

    Guanajuato is a reference to competitiveness in indigenous sports, during the “Encuentro Nacional Deportivo Indígena 2021” held in the city of Oaxaca, Guanajuato won 8 gold medals in the discipline of athletics, 1 silver medal in basketball, 1 silver medal in volleyball and 3 bronze medals in athletics.
