The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, announced the arrival of the 2024 edition of the International Balloon Festival (FIG) to the Metropolitan Park of León, to be held from 15 to 18 November. With an expected 400,000 participants and an estimated economic impact of 800 million pesos, the FIG is positioned as a world reference in aeronautics and a tourist attraction for Mexico and the world.
During a press conference in Mexico City, the governor highlighted the participation of 200 balloons from 25 countries, including Germany, Brazil, Turkey, the United States, France and Switzerland, as well as the arrival of 10 special figures that will fly for the first time in this festival, including ‘Escapology’, inspired by the Robbie Williams album, ‘Captain Caveman’ from Brazil and ‘Swiss Cow Blüemli’ from Switzerland.
This unique event in Mexico offers air shows, cultural activities and concerts of international calibre. We invite national and international visitors to live this magical experience in Guanajuato, where they can also enjoy our two World Heritage Cities: Guanajuato Capital and San Miguel de Allende, as well as our six Magical Cities,’ said the Governor.
This year’s novelties include an innovative show called ‘Star Dance’, in which drones form shapes in the sky to the rhythm of the music, and the Zeppelin Show, which will complement the traditional ‘Magical Nights’, in which hot-air balloons light up to the beat of iconic melodies. On the live music front, visitors can look forward to star-studded concerts from J Balvin, Marshmello, Armin van Buuren and Julión Álvarez, who will headline the main stage.
There will also be an alternative stage for local and national artists and a gastronomic area with a wide range of culinary options. This year’s edition also sees the return of the camping area, with three modalities for different audiences: Rayo Camp, Electro Camp and Mexa Camp, in line with the day’s concerts to offer a complete experience.
The Secretary of Tourism of the Mexican Government, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, highlighted the positive impact that the FIG has on the Bajío region of Mexico, consolidating it as one of the most important aeronautical events in the world. The announcement was also attended by the FIG Director General, Escandra Salim Alle, the Secretary of Tourism and Identity of the State of Guanajuato, María Guadalupe Robles León, the President of the International Balloon Festival, Abraham Rocha Moreno, and the FIG 2024 Ambassador, Jorge Blanco.
The Mayoress of León, Alejandra Gutiérrez Campos, also welcomed the visitors, stressing that “the FIG is not only an aeronautical experience, but also an opportunity to get to know and enjoy León, a modern city with a first-class infrastructure and spectacular spaces such as the Metropolitan Park.
With this unique offer of entertainment and culture, Guanajuato is preparing to welcome the world to the 2024 International Balloon Festival, confirming its position as a top tourist destination.
