Barra Mexico, the most important bar show in Latin America that promotes cocktails, bars, restaurants, and brands of spirits, wines, and high-end products, will hold its 6th edition -for the first time- in San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage City in the state of Guanajuato.

This was announced today by Juan José Álvarez Brunel, Secretary of Tourism of the state of Guanajuato; Paula García and Ara Carvallo, founders of Barra México; and Laura Torres Septién, President of the Tourism Council of San Miguel de Allende, during a press conference held in Mexico City.

Barra México is the meeting point in the region to learn about trends and reflections that envision the future of hospitality and the culture of beverage and food consumption, and also serves as a platform for the best bartenders in Mexico and the world to collaborate with premium brands, as well as with hotels, bars, and restaurants in the city.

From August 26 to 30, activations will take place in more than 30 spaces in San Miguel de Allende, including bars, restaurants, terraces, gardens, art galleries, cafes, stores, and emblematic points of the city.

And from August 27 to 29, the Villa Barra Mexico -the main event based at the San Lucas Vineyard- will feature the presence of more than 100 brands and will offer 12 seminars and tastings. This space will also open the doors to a new and interesting conversation about the wine culture of San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, positioning the cities as worthy representatives on an international level.

“The state of Guanajuato has distinguished itself for hosting major events and is a favorite destination for its tourist diversity, hospitality, and magnificent scenery. The gastronomic, wine tourism and distilled spirits segments have been booming in recent years, positioning the state as one of the main national producers and generators of great stories,” said Juan José Álvarez.

“Guanajuato is very excited to have these calls to visit us in Guanajuato, a state known for its diversity of segments,” added the Secretary of Tourism.

One of the objectives of this sixth edition is to reactivate the movement in consumption centers, encourage and educate about responsible consumption, without leaving behind the educational objective that has always characterized the event. Barra Mexico will also work together with allies to position San Miguel de Allende as the capital of fine drinking in the world.

San Miguel de Allende was the city chosen by Barra Mexico 2021 for “bringing together tradition, gastronomy, art, and architecture,” said Paula García.

In addition, “it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 and has been awarded several prizes such as Best City in the World 2018 & 2019 by Travel + Leisure, Best Small City in the World 2017 & 2020 by Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards; Top 20 Destinations by Forbes Magazine and winner of four categories of Food and Travel Mexico Resilience 2020,” added the organizer.

This edition brings together the collaborative work of institutions such as the Government of the State of Guanajuato, through the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the Tourism Council of San Miguel de Allende, Tequila Casa Dragones, JAC Motors, Hielo Swiss Gourmet, Cava Sautto and Fifty Mils of the Four Seasons Hotel, who support the economic revival of the Mexican Bajio and various industries that join forces to move forward.

Laura Torres emphasized that “Barra Mexico will be the perfect complement to the wide range of hotels, restaurants, adventure experiences, romance, culture and much more than the destination has to offer. So we invite you to visit us and enjoy this experience that is not only for cocktail aficionados but for all those who want to experience something different and unique in Latin America”.

Barra Mexico reaffirms its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint and be an inclusive event; in addition, it will offer free transportation to the attendees of the Barra Mexico Village, all under a strict security protocol covid to protect the health of the attendees and the inhabitants of the city.

In short, Barra Mexico and the Government of the State of Guanajuato will join efforts, passion, and professionalism to offer unique experiences that will contribute to the reactivation of the economy and the positioning of Mexico as a vanguard country.
