Bekeb Artisanal Mixology

Fabiola Padilla loves the culinary industry, its people, and the atmosphere of conviviality that comes with a bar. This is why she opened her restaurant and bar Bekeb in San Miguel de Allende, located only three blocks from the Jardín Principal. She designed the terrace herself with colors and decorations that contrast and complement the hues of the sky as the sun sets, giving Bekeb a most unique view. The decoration aims to recreate a desert environment but it feels fresh and vibrant because of all the colors used.

The name Bekeb is a palindrome meaning seed in the Totzil language of the Mayas. The restaurant attempts to bring us back to those roots with a focus on local Mexican flavors. All the cocktails are based on flowers and the flavors of ancient herbs such as lemon verbena and basil. One of the favorite cocktails is made with Casa Dragones tequila, sake, prickly pear, and a touch of basil, creating a totally unique flavor. They have an extensive cache of different tequilas, mezcal, and Bacanora—a special, agave-derived liquor from Sonora. The menu at Bekeb was created by Matt Conroy and his wife Isabela. Everything is prepared with local products and one of the customer favorites is a mix of cheese, tostadas, and a special dressing. They also offer a shrimp ceviche and guacamole with herbs.
