Covid yellow traffic light extended for another week

Guanajuato will remain in yellow traffic light another week , because although there is a downward trend in both infections and deaths, the appearance of more cases related to the variants of the coronavirus make, that for prevention of the infections to shoot the same sanitary status is maintained in the entity.
Fatima Melchor Marquez, state chief of Epidemiology of the Secretariat of Health of Guanajuato, reported that due to this situation it was decided to maintain the state epidemiological traffic light in yellow in the state, this is from June 7 to 13.
“While cases and transmission continue to fall, unfortunately there has not been a day in which new cases are not reported or deaths or hospital admissions are not published,” he said and that is why this status is maintained in the entity.
Fatima Melchor Marquez explained that the issue of the due to the continued appearance of new cases of the SARS-CoV-2 virus variants is that it was also determined that the sanitary measures should be maintained, such is the case of the use of mouth covers, healthy distance and constant hand washing.
“The vaccines that are currently being applied do not protect against all the variants that have been documented and in the state of Guanajuato last week we presented 104 cases and today there are already 130 cases of Covid-19 variants in 30 municipalities of the entity, this is 65% of the state territory, then we must not lower our guard in any way.”
Irapuato is the municipality with the most cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus variants, with 20 reported, followed by Leon with 19, Guanajuato has 15, Salamanca 13, Valle de Santiago 8 and Penjamo 7.
“The variant that has been identified most frequently in Guanajuato is B.1.1.519, which is also the most frequently described in the country and although it has not been related to higher mortality, it is transmitted more easily and the greater the number of cases, the probability of death also increases”.
In addition, Fatima Melchor commented that there are currently 66 hospitalized patients in Guanajuato, which indicates that the state has a hospital occupancy rate of 4.1%; of these 66 hospitalized patients, 24 have a confirmed diagnosis for Covid-19 and 13 are intubated, which indicates that the virus continues to affect people who have acquired it.
