Traditional Festival in honor of the Holy Cross

For 100 years, the tradition of the San Miguel communities is still alive and is reflected with this Festivity in Honor of the Holy Cross of the Valle del Maíz; Same that began from this Wednesday, May 18 and that will be present all month with different celebrations in communities and neighborhoods of the municipality.

The World Heritage City lives during this month one of its most important celebrations in which different religious activities are carried out such as masses, prayers, pilgrimages, cultural activities, among many more.

Being a period with great significance for the destination, since it is another opportunity to demonstrate to the world the traditions and culture that only in this municipality can be lived.

It should be noted that the festivity that takes place in honor of the Santa Cruz del Valle del Maíz, in the neighborhood of the same name and which brings together thousands of parishioners and travelers every year, is a tradition that dates back to the time of Constantine and is brought to New Spain with the arrival of the Spaniards; although the cross of Palenque indicates that this symbol existed since pre-Hispanic times, but with different meaning, it was assimilated by indigenous peoples and Catholic worship.

Currently, the Festivity in Honor of the Santa Cruz del Valle del Maíz, is so deeply rooted in the country that it is one of the most relevant in San Miguel de Allende, due to its great color, artistic, pre-Hispanic and ancestral merit.

This year, the celebration is from May 18 to 30, where the neighbors of Valle del Maíz carry out diverse religious and cultural events, ranging from candle wakes, dances of the neighborhood, colloquiums, elaboration ofúchiles, to diverse musical presentations with a great culmination among pyrotechnic fireworks, bulls and a great castle.

The Festivity in Honor of the Santa Cruz del Valle del Maíz is one of the most traditional celebrations in this World Heritage City, which shows the whole world how San Miguel de Allende is the destination that makes the heart of Mexico beat faster and better every day.
