This weekend the Monumental Nativity Scene was installed in the kiosk of the Main Garden, a family tradition of more than four decades made by the Almanza Family; despite not having the support of the municipality, the family continues with this tradition for the enjoyment of the people of San Miguel.

Four brothers of the Almanza family, nephews, and friends, about 12 people in total, collaborate for two days to build the traditional nativity scene. Nine figures were created by the magic hands of Don Genaro Almanza, a sculptor from San Miguel.

The tradition dates back to 1978, year in which Mr. Jose Rodriguez is better known as “El Santero” became ill and handed over the baton to Don Genaro, for which he helped him to build the figures that today adorn the kiosk; the previous nativity remains in the Templo de la Santa Escuela.

From that moment on, it became a tradition to place the nativity scene, sometimes decorated with real animals and sometimes with brass stars, but always with the great pleasure of giving life to the portal that will house the baby Jesus.

For several years, Ángeles Almanza has been coordinating her siblings to install this beautiful nativity scene and preserve the tradition that they hope will continue for many years to come.

In this year 2021, a member of the Almanza family reproached traditions are not a priority for the Municipal Government and thanked the people who support and help from their hearts.
