The restoration of this historic building promises to become an upgrade for this Guanajuato city

It seems that there is nothing more that can be added to a consolidated tourist center such as San Miguel de Allende, declared a World Heritage Site in 2008, and today, one of the most visited destinations by Mexicans and foreigners.

Fortunately for those of us who love this Guanajuato population, every year new projects arrive to enrich the infrastructure of San Miguel, such as Correo 25, whose start was made a few days ago in the heart of the city.

Correo 25 will be one of the most important hotel, restaurant and lifestyle projects in San Miguel, just a few meters from the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, in a historic house that will be restored under the guidelines of the National Institute of Anthropology and History.

The project will be in charge of Vexux Real State Development, a company that will supervise the rescue of the house, one of the largest, most spectacular and best preserved in the historic center of the town, as Danel Dobarganes, one of the representatives of the project, told us.

“The idea is to rescue and restore one of the most important historic buildings in the state; a building of more than 250 years that will be transformed into spaces where Mexicans and tourists from all over the world can enjoy the fusion between historic architecture and the comforts of modernity in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, “Daniel told us after the start of the work.

Two and a half centuries of history

Because Correo 25 is listed as a historical monument, the architects of Vexus Real State Development will work for more than a year on the restoration and conditioning, which will include a new support structure for the support of the eighteenth-century building. The start of work was attended by the municipal president Mauricio Trejo and Fidel Dobarganes, Partner of Vexus, who celebrated the restoration and modernization of the property among family, friends and special guests who knew in detail the project that includes the expansion of the two existing restaurants, the rehabilitation of commercial premises and the creation of a boutique hotel with 11 rooms on the top floor.

Correo 25 will also have a mixology bar and a restaurant that will be located on a terrace of 950 square meters that will be the largest in the city. “This project will provide unique spaces for visitors, who will be able to enjoy it from the end of 2024,” Daniel told us.

San Miguel de Allende was founded in 1555 and is today one of the most important points in the wide area of historical monuments in the center of the country thanks to its religious and civil architecture in New Spanish and Baroque styles. The project has a special meaning for the Dobarganes family, because the building has belonged to the family since the 70s, so its restoration is also a dream that has been postponed for generations but from 2024 it will be a reality.
