The mysterious tapada, an overwhelming presence of San Miguel de Allende

Legend has it that in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende there lived a woman who suffered from a deformity in her face and always covered her face with a black veil.

But it was one night that the woman was returning home, when she noticed that some drunken men began to follow her, nervous and with a hurried pace, the woman continued on her way, when one of the drunks approached her to kiss her, the woman looking fearful approached a pole that lit the street, when she felt that one of the men was in front of her, and the woman began to laugh with terrible laughter and uncovered her deformed face.

The men were so shocked to see her face and hear her chilling laughter that they were stunned with fear and came to their senses, having the fright of their lives they began to flee the place in all directions and disappeared in a matter of seconds.

Since then, the rumor spread throughout the town and the “Tapada Misteriosa” became a legend.

Today it is said that she is found walking the street of Correo, where she waits for her victims to leave the cantina.
