With the aim of strengthening emergency services and medical assistance, the Red Cross of San Miguel de Allende began its 2024 Annual Collection on March 14, seeking to raise 600 thousand pesos.

During the official kick-off, Leticia Peña González, president of the Local Board of Directors, stressed that this collection is the most important of the year at the national, state and municipal levels, since the resources obtained allow the continuity of the humanitarian work carried out by the institution.

Under the slogan “Mexico donates”, San Miguel also donates, the Red Cross calls on the community to contribute to this cause. Beyond the economic goal, Peña González highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the population about the effort involved in each emergency service.

“Every time an ambulance sounds, there is a family that needs us. We cover more than 500 services per month, that is, at least 16 daily cares, not counting care services. All this has a cost and depends on the support of society,” he explained.

Currently, the local delegation has 214 volunteers organized in more than 10 coordinations, who work tirelessly to attend emergencies and offer medical assistance. However, resources are always limited.

Although the Red Cross receives a municipal subsidy and has donations from individuals, the demand for services exceeds the financial capacity. Peña González mentioned that each ambulance exit has a cost of between 2 thousand and 5 thousand pesos, depending on the severity of the case, which makes fundraising essential.

“We have 10 units in service, but only eight can operate simultaneously due to maintenance needs and special events. We want to continue advancing and improving, but many times projects are paused due to lack of resources,” he said.

People interested in supporting can make their donation directly at the offices of the delegation, located in the Libramiento Manuel Zabala, or there will be some volunteers boating, this until June 1, where in Plaza Luciérnaga will be the closing of the collection. In addition, donations are tax-deductible.

The Red Cross of San Miguel de Allende invites all citizens to join this collection and to be part of the effort to continue saving lives. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference.
