After a week full of cultural events in honor of the “Day of the Dead,” Lila Downs provided a  magnificent closure to this Mexican tradition.

In what was a spectacular concert in front of more than 6 thousand people by the multi-award-winning and internationally renowned artist Lila Downs, the World Heritage City had a colossal closing of activities of the “Day of the Dead” program that, since last Monday, filled the splendor of Mexican culture to San Miguelenses, visitors and tourists.

For the evening, of which Lila Downs was a part, she was accompanied at all times, since the local ballet group “Corazón de México SMA”, made its presentation at the same time as the Oaxacan artist and in the first instance, the poem “Of light and shadows in Day of the Dead…” by the group “In Xochitl – In Cuicatl”, which, with Mexican folklore, dazzled those present with an emotional show that opened a perfect night in which life was celebrated.

Among other things and as part of the extensive program of events alluding to the celebration of the faithful departed, for a week there were screenings of films, theater, folkloric dance, workshops and conferences, and as part of the massive events the traditional Catrinas Parade was held that brought together about 70,000 people and the placement of altars; Adding to the cultural offer, for the first time the Traditional Burial was experienced, where old anecdotes of funerals were recovered with the touch of San Miguel, with a tour that left from the Temple of the Oratory and culminated in the old pantheon of San Juan de Dios.

In addition, following the tourism strategy of the municipal president Mauricio Trejo, through the Directorate of Tourism in coordination with the restaurant guild, dishes alluding to the dates were offered, which, added to the spectacular decorations on facades and public spaces, painted San Miguel with the traditional colors of the “Day of the Dead”, which continued to position the municipality as one of the favorite destinations to visit on these dates.
