Pedro Friedeberg’s iconic sculpture “Mano-Silla” is now in San Miguel de Allende. The artist and the municipal president, Gonzalo Gonzalez, unveiled it together on the renovated El Chorro planks.

The piece was transported in early July, 351 kilometers, from the artist’s workshop in Cuernavaca, Morelos to San Miguel de Allende. It is a replica of the original, weighing six tons and four meters high. It is supported by a 6-meter base that was fixed to the first terrace of the El Chorro descent.

The management was achieved six months ago through the Direction of Culture and Traditions. The artist chose this piece inspired by his affection for San Miguel de Allende, where he lived for 25 years, and because it signifies closeness and hospitality, which characterized his stay in the municipality.

President Gonzalo Gonzalez Rodriguez spoke of the harmony between Friedeberg’s art and San Miguel de Allende, innovative and captivating for the contemporary public. The unveiling was also attended by curator Alejandro Sordo, and Carmen Gutiérrez, who linked the management between the municipality and the artist; as well as the Director of Culture and Traditions, Paulina Cadena.

Those who visit this sculpture will be able to “start” their cultural and historical tour in San Miguel de Allende since it was in El Chorro where the city was founded, and from there they will continue to Juarez Park, with more than 100 years of history, and walk to the heritage zone.
