San Miguel de Allende commemorated the 14th anniversary of its nomination as a World Heritage City by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In 2008, the committee of experts on World Heritage, an international organization made up of around 800 members, met in Quebec, Canada, to announce this important designation for San Miguel de Allende.
It was on July 7, 14 years ago that San Miguel de Allende was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in the category of Cultural Property and under the category of Historic City.
As a great example of this nomination, the impressive Baroque architecture generated in the era of New Spain from the sixteenth century, also considered one of the most important and most important sites where Mexico’s Independence was forged, stands out.
This important city is an example of great architectural preservation, maintaining its historical authenticity, being one of the reasons for its declaration as a World Heritage Site.
Let’s remember that San Miguel de Allende was founded in the 15th century among the Purepecha and Guamares Indians as a mission. It is also important to point out that most of its main buildings were built up to the 17th century, being its peak period.
One of the most representative icons of this city is the magnificent Parish of San Miguel Arcangel, with a neo-Gothic facade from the late nineteenth century, which has undoubtedly become the main visual attraction of the destination.
San Miguel de Allende is a destination immersed in traditions and culture, which takes all visitors on a journey full of history, which undoubtedly leaves great moments and experiences to those who arrive in this World Heritage City, which makes the heart of Mexico and the world beat.
