The Municipal Government has intervened in 6 public fountains since at the beginning of the administration several of them were received in poor condition.
According to the municipality, these colonial structures, which are iconic in the city for being tourist attractions, are being rehabilitated, “since they were abandoned, deteriorated and some of them have even been looted”.
The Directorate of Public Services and Quality of Life reactivated the specialized unit to give maintenance to each of these fountains, with the necessary tools and materials to make their irrigation mechanism work again.
It was reported that the fountain in the main garden, the Escudos fountain on Correo Street, the fountain in the San Juan de Dios church on San Antonio Abad Street, the fountain in Benito Juarez Park on Baeza Street, the fountain in the San Francisco church on San Francisco Street and the fountain in the Oratorio church on Insurgentes Street at the corner of Pepellanos Street have already been rescued.
Likewise, the fountains on the streets Jesús, Hospicio, Recreo, Barranca, Correo on the corner of Chiquitos, Homobono, Del Ojo, Quebrada, Tenerías on the corner of Codo and Sollano, among others, will be intervened. For these actions, approximately 70 thousand pesos of the budget have been spent so far.
“There are several that were abandoned and little by little we have been rescuing them. It changes the appearance of the fountain or the area where the fountain is and is, in some way, an attraction that San Miguel de Allende has,” said the director of Public Services and Quality of Life, José Luis Pérez.
Currently, work is being done on the installation of white paint in accordance with the heritage palette, broken surfaces are being repaired, peeling areas are being repainted, areas with fungus due to humidity and stagnant water are being washed, pumps are being replaced to reactivate the flow and fall of the water jet, and reflectors and timers, devices that program the automatic operation system, are being replaced or changed.
“I ask the citizens to help us to watch over it, to take care of it and to be aware that the fountain is still alive, that it remains active”, concluded the municipal official.
