More than 10 thousand trees will be planted in 40 neighborhoods and on medians.
Reforestation of the urban area begins with the planting of fruit trees and trees typical of the region, which will be located along the Manuel Zavala Zavala highway, in its stretch from the Ventanas traffic circle to the Bicentennial Bridge, as well as in several points of neighborhoods and neighborhoods of the city. This is part of the activities of the current administration in favor of the environment and the beautification of San Miguel de Allende.
We are also working with the neighborhood committees, because this is a job that cannot be done by the administration alone, and we want to involve the citizens as well”.
The neighborhood committees in San Miguel de Allende are those that have already been confirmed with the support of the Secretary of Public Safety, which maintain the vigilant neighbor campaign active and who also in this reforestation activity, will help to make possible the planting of more than 10 thousand trees in a first stage.
Francisco Peyret, Director of Environment and Sustainability, explained that “the ideal months to plant trees and reforest are May and June before and during the rainy season. In this sense we are going to cover two stages, in the first one, planting in urban areas, sidewalks, green areas, public parks (…). We are going to plant fruit trees because it is traditional in San Miguel de Allende and endemic trees such as mesquite, ocotillo, palo dulce”.
Francisco Peyret, mentioned that this program will also cover and start in 15 communities beginning in June. “We are currently in soil restoration, preparing the land for the communities, we estimate that about 400 people will work in the planning, hoping to exceed 250 thousand species planted between maguey and endemic trees”. Mentioned the Director of Environment.
It should be remembered that the reforestation work in communities began last year in conjunction with the state government. It is estimated that this year the reforestation project between state government and municipality, will cover up to 1,500 hectares intervened, of which communities from all areas of the municipality participate, such as: La Margarita, Puerto de Nieto, Támbula – Picachos, Doña Juana, El Membrillo, Sosnabar, Cañada de la Virgen, Agustín González, Don Francisco, Los Torres, El Salitre, to mention a few.
Returning to the reforestation project that began this April 29, in urban areas, the municipal president, Gonzalo Gonzalez, ended by saying. “In the remainder of the administration year there will be 20 thousand trees to be planted. Everything adds up and as we all get involved in favor of the environment, we will surely leave a better planet for our children”.
