The Rotaract Club, in collaboration with the Midday Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende, continues its ongoing program to provide free prosthetic hands to people who need them as a result of accidents or congenital conditions.
José de Anda, President of the Rotaract Club, called on the citizens of the state of Guanajuato who need a prosthesis and can travel to San Miguel de Allende to attend the next fitting event, which will be held on February 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hotel Quinta Loreto.
Requirements and Fitting Process
One of the main requirements to receive a prosthesis is to have at least 13 cm of arm below the elbow to ensure optimal functionality. However, thanks to innovations in the program, it is now possible to fit prostheses to people who do not meet this requirement using special extensions.
The Accommodation Event is divided into several phases:
• Registration: General information is collected from beneficiaries.
• Prosthesis selection: Participants select a design provided by international companies and partners, including LN4 in the United States.
• Education and fitting: Rotaract and Rotarian volunteers work directly with each beneficiary to explain how the prosthesis works, including fitting and maintenance.
• Wearing trials: Participants practice using utensils such as cups, silverware, and pens to test the functionality of the prosthesis.
• Photographic evidence: As a unique donor requirement, a photo is taken with the prosthesis in place.
The inauguration event, held on November, 11 prostheses were delivered to beneficiaries from communities such as Celaya, Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Querétaro and Juventino Rosas. Among them was a 10-year-old girl, as the program is open to children from five years old to adults. (Read more . . .)
All prostheses are free of charge, with the only cost being transportation to San Miguel de Allende.
Anyone interested in receiving a prosthesis can contact us via WhatsApp at 415 151 4826 or through the Rotaract San Miguel de Allende Club Facebook page.
José de Anda emphasized that this program is active throughout the year, so those who cannot participate on February 15th will have more opportunities in future events.
This initiative aims to improve the quality of life of people with amputations or congenital deformities by providing them with tools for greater independence and functionality in their daily lives.
