Development in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, must be carried out through the conservation of its vocation, architecture, and planning, said the municipal president of this town, Mauricio Trejo Pureco.

Interviewed during the Tianguis Turístico 2021, the mayor explained that the intention is for that city not to opt for modernization, but to preserve “its magic”, which positioned it in 2017 as the best in the world to travel, according to a specialized magazine.

“In the last three years, it lost its way. Very large hotels arrived that made a brutal competition to the boutique hotels and made some of them disappear. What we want now is to maintain an orderly growth,” he said.

Trejo Pureco pointed out that the multiplier effect of these establishments is of great benefit to the community because they generate a vertical economic spill that goes “all the way down to the bolero”, unlike the large hotel chains.

The mayor explained that the plan to be developed to attract foreign medical tourism includes taking up projects that he started during his first term as mayor, from 2012 to 2015, and that was left unfinished in the PAN administrations that followed him.
