To begin with, it should be noted that Mineral de Pozos is a place that has gained fame for being a ghost town. According to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), it was abandoned twice since its foundation. Therefore, the ruins of this place, along with the legends and countless other surprises, are just some of the things that await the most intrepid who wish to venture there.
This place was originally a nomadic settlement for the Chichimeca, Huachichil, Copuces, Guaxabanes, and Pames tribes, but it was not until the arrival of the Spaniards that a fort was built to protect the silver of Zacatecas. It was founded in the 18th century and the local people were dedicated to both agriculture and mining. For this reason, one of the main attractions of the place are the vestiges of the mines. But, although everything seemed to be going well for this region, it was abandoned by its inhabitants in 1920.
Currently, this destination is classified as bohemian and festive, the climate is mild and it does not rain much. In addition, for those adventurers who want to try new drinks in this place, you can find the traditional colonche, which is the fermented fruit of a red prickly pear cactus.
