Join Victor Zapatero (artist) and Melanie Harris (curator) at Sala Quetzal at the Biblioteca Publica for a fascinating journey through light and space in order to understand the potential of light as the principal language in multimedia art-making. They will discuss the current panorama of different multimedia expressions using light and their principal characteristics, reaches, and challenges.

Victor Zapatero is an award-winning lighting design artist with an emphasis in dramatic stage lighting design for theater, dance, and opera who work extensively both nationally and internationally with the top creators and producers. Currently, Victor is working on art installations that use light as its primary medium to create an energetic (and aesthetic) relationship with the spectator. Zapatero is part of the prestigious CONACULTA Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, and he will be presenting questions regarding new ways we can all experience light and add it to our artistic practices or our aesthetic motivations. He will also discuss his current residency at Contemplamos – a newly formed international residency program that is hosted by the newly inaugurated immersive art space Contemplo located at Viñedo Dos Búhos, and the new directions he will be taking his lighting explorations.

Melanie Harris is a curator based out of Texas and San Miguel de Allende who will discuss her vision for Contemplo as an incubator for artists with a desire to work with multimedia arts such as video, sound, video mapping, and laser lights. Her new project, Contemplo has the equipment and software available for students to use and experiment in these new media forms. If you are a visual artist, photographer, actor, stage designer, multimedia artist, director or member of the public, You are welcome!
