Guanajuato, largest broccoli producer in the country

The State of Guanajuato ranks first in broccoli production with 412,826.70 tons, with a value of more than 2,787 million pesos. This cruciferous vegetable is produced in 31 municipalities in the state, with the first place in production in the municipality of Dolores Hidalgo.
State statistics indicate that followed by Paulo Bañuelos Rosales, Secretary of Agrifood and Rural Development of the State of Guanajuato, commented that it is a crop that develops mainly during the autumn and winter seasons, and for normal development of the plant it is necessary that the temperatures, during the growth phase, oscillate between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius (°C). While starting the flower induction phase it needs between 10 and 15 °C during several hours of the day, it also requires medium-textured soils and can withstand excessive salinity of the soil and irrigation water.
He also assured that its consumption is constantly increasing, since it is a healthy food that admits multiple preparations. It has a pleasant flavor and is rich in vitamins and minerals, besides being low in calories.
He indicated that the national statistics say that the production of this cruciferous in the year 2022 was 632 thousand 258 tons being established in 16 states, with a total of 34 thousand 252 hectares.
Assuring that the highest production has been concentrated in the state of Guanajuato with 65%, followed by Puebla with 8%, Sonora with 6%, and the rest is contributed by 13 states.In addition, the monetary value of production amounted to 4,398 million pesos in 2022, with Guanajuato earning 2,787 million pesos.
State statistics indicate that the municipality with the highest production is Dolores Hidalgo with 50 thousand 296 tons, followed by Valle de Santiago 45 thousand 402 tons, San Luis de la Paz with 34 thousand 093 tons, Doctor Mora with 27 thousand 967 tons, San José Iturbide with 25 thousand 116, Santa Cruz Juventino Rosas with 24 thousand 745, and San Miguel de Allende with 21 thousand 015 tons.In addition, Mexico positioned itself as the second global exporter of broccoli and cauliflower, with a 19.2% share of the world market, only behind Spain, assuring that the commercial exchange of this agricultural good abroad is mainly with the United States; in the last three years, an average of 436 thousand tons have been destined to the North American nation.
