GIFF travels to Cannes to present the best of Guanajuato’s films

    The Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) presents a special program of 10 films at the Short Film Corner of the Marché de Cannes: “¡Viva México! The best of Guanajuato IFF”.

    Five filmmakers from Guanajuato are participating in Cannes, promoted by GIFF.

    As part of its participation in the 75th edition of Cannes, GIFF will present a program with 10 films in the Short Film Corner, a space dedicated to the sale, exhibition, and distribution of short films from the Marché de Cannes, a special selection called “¡Viva México! The best of Guanajuato IFF”.

    The selection present at Cannes will include films by talented young filmmakers from Guanajuato, among them three documentaries from the Identity and Belonging competition, as well as the winning film of the 12th University Rally and four short films that have won awards at past editions of GIFF.

    “Al motociclista no le cabe la felicidad en el traje” by Gabriel Herrera / Best Fiction Short Film GIFF 2021.

    “Papel” by Gisela Carbajal Rodríguez / Short Film with Special Mention at GIFF 2021.

    “La Colmena” Víctor Jara and Jean Renoir / Best Short Film Guanajuato GIFF 2021.

    “El Torito, la Danza del pueblo” by Roberto Antonio Salazar / Winner of the Identity and Belonging Contest GIFF 2021.

    “Submerged Memory” by Salvador Ybarra / Second place in the Identity and Belonging Contest GIFF 2021.

    “Muerte en Guanajuato” by Luis Ernesto Pérez / Winner of the 12th University Rally GIFF 2021.

    “Los no nacidos” by Christian Cornejo / Winner Best Short Film Guanajuato GIFF 2019.

    “Faroles” by Juan Pablo Hernández / Winner of the Identity and Belonging Contest GIFF 2019.

    Along with this selection of titles, five filmmakers supported by GIFF will travel to promote their respective projects in the Short Film Corner and present them to various film distributors and festivals around the world.

    MEXICANNES: New Film Talent at GIFF
    As part of the alliance that GIFF maintains with Cinéfondation of the Cannes Film Festival, Sarah Hoch, executive director of the Mexican festival will meet with the 12 filmmakers chosen by Cannes, who after their residency in Paris will travel to Guanajuato to attend the MexiCannes Residency program, held within the framework of GIFF.

    Cinéfondation is the Cannes area that promotes new talents in filmmaking, through which 12 filmmakers qualified as “future promises of world cinema” are chosen to support them with advice and links with the international film elite.

    During their stay in Guanajuato, Mexico, as part of the 25th edition of GIFF, the selected filmmakers of the MexiCannes program will seek co-productions between their countries of origin and Mexico. The first meeting between Sarah Hoch and the new talents will take place within the framework of the Cannes Film Festival.

    GIFF prepares international partnerships
    As part of its commitment to the promotion of the Mexican film industry, GIFF director Sarah Hoch is traveling to Cannes to close several international alliances that will benefit Mexican filmmakers. GIFF’s presence at Cannes aims to promote new Mexican film talent and the Mexican film industry.

    In this way, GIFF celebrates another year of the close relationship with the most prestigious film event in the world: the Cannes Film Festival.
