The month of September inaugurated the season of the year with the best celebrations of the year, such as the shout of September 15th, and the traditional Day of the Dead, which is why the various tourist destinations are already getting ready to receive all tourists, as in the case of San Miguel de Allende, which will hold various activities around the Day of the Dead.
In order to preserve the traditions in the municipality, the Culture and Traditions Department has prepared a special program to celebrate the Day of the Dead, which runs from October 27 to November 7, and includes various activities in person, but also online, so you can enjoy them from the comfort and safety of your home.
Due to the sanitary contingency caused by the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, some activities that were traditionally carried out in the state had to be suspended and others modified, in order to adapt them to this new reality and to be able to attend and respect the sanitary measures proposed by the Ministry of Health and avoid contagions.

On-site activities
The program for the on-site activities runs from October 30 to November 2, unfortunately, the catrinas parade that took place every year in the entity was suspended to avoid contagions among participants and attendees, however, instead of the parade, there will be various activities such as offerings, workshops to paint skulls, photographic exhibitions, plays, etc. There will be several tours in various parts of the city, where attendees can see a series of altars dedicated to those who have already gone before us.There will be several tours in various parts of the city, where attendees will be able to see a series of altars dedicated to those who have passed away, in order to avoid crowds.
The local cemetery, San Juan de Dios, will remain open to the public, although it will be necessary to register beforehand, since access will be allowed in small groups, no more than 30 people, and they will only be able to stay in the place for an estimated 30 minutes. Registration can be made by calling (415) 154 56 70.
Likewise, hotels and restaurants will have their Day of the Dead celebrations offering special menus to their guests, as well as including activities such as small catrinas parades, musical presentations, among others. It is worth mentioning that all activities will be carried out in compliance with health safety protocols.
Another of the activities that will take place in San Miguel de Allende is a tour where different points of the city will be visited to observe four giant skulls that are distributed in the Plaza Cívica, Plaza Insurgentes, Parque Zeferino, and Parque Juárez.
Virtual Activities
For all those who cannot travel, San Miguel de Allende has prepared a program with different virtual activities so that everyone can be part of the great celebration. The online activities will begin on October 27.Among the activities that can be enjoyed from home are workshops, concerts, and theater performances, which can be accessed through social networks such as Facebook (@DIRECCIÓN DE CULTURA Y TRADICIONES), Instagram (@CULTURASANMIGUEL), and YouTube (@CULTURASANMIGUEL).
On October 30 you can enjoy a piano concert and the presentation of the play “Huesos, calacas y calaveras”, while on October 31, the choir Ofrenda angelitos will perform and there will be another concert.
On November 2, a poetry recital called “Poetry of Death” will be enjoyed and on the last day there will be a master conference with Carmen Saucedo Zarco, who will speak on “The Heroes of Independence and their remains” while José Antonio Pompa y Padilla will speak on “The remains of the Heroes in the Independence Column”.
