Plastic waste in our environment is a major global problem.
Plastic, once warmly welcomed as a magnificent and extremely useful product, is becoming a threat for our planet: plastic waste ends up in our oceans, rivers, waters, beaches, forests, landfills and in our city parks and streets. Plastic does not disappear but just gets smaller and causes serious problems for living beings. And so it starts entering our food chain and our bodies.
I like to introduce to you EndPlasticSoup. No, it’s not a menu item from out local soup lady. EndPlasticSoup is an initiative of Rotary Clubs of Amsterdam (D1580), started in 2018. Over the past two years it has brought about great enthusiasm and a lot of activities amongst 60 Rotary and Rotaract Clubs in the Netherlands, in Germany and in Europe. And now we’re excited to make Rotarians and guests of the MidDay Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende familiar with this initiative. This Tuesday’s guest speaker is
Wendela Sandberg, co-founder of ‘EndPlasticSoup’. Ms. Sandberg joined us via Zoom video link direct from Amsterdam to share information about this vital organization.
The ultimate goal of End Plastic Soup is by 2050 there is no more plastic soup in the oceans, seas, no more plastic waste in our lakes, rivers, forests, parks and streets. Rotary, Rotaract and Interact Clubs worldwide are working together to solve and prevent the plastic pollution problem. This global initiative is already supported by 3.500 Rotarians of 1200 Rotary, Rotaract & Interact Clubs worldwide.
Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. For more information contact President Skip Essick at skipessickmedia@gmail.com
