  • The UNESCO-listed city of San Miguel de Allende topped Condé Nast Traveler’s “World’s Best Cities: 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards” in the “Best Small Cities” category.

In recent years, artists, chefs, writers, and creators from around the world have made this colorful city of colonial, baroque, and neoclassical architecture a unique destination for art, gastronomy, and hedonism.

In the heart of the most beautiful colonial city in Mexico and two blocks from the historic center, Dos Casas is the ideal hotel to get to know San Miguel de Allende. Dos Casas opened its doors in 2004, the boutique hotel was built by intervening two adjacent 18th-century colonial houses, thus founding the first design hotel in San Miguel de Allende. It was remodeled in 2014 by Alberto Laposse and Mexican interior designer Germán Velasco, the result is evident in the elegance and attention to detail of the eclectic décor, which mixes furniture from the 40s and ’50s with the latest in design and, of course, a Mexican character.

The interior design of the Dos Casas hotel is the contemporary interpretation of the aesthetic values of the Mexican colonial style. Warmth, textures, color, and light are now manifested in Dos Casas through materials such as stone, marble, wood, leather, steel, and brass to generate warm environments with a modern and contemporary language.

By adopting the two historic structures, Laposse invoked a dialogue of materials, spaces, and methodologies. Here, past and present intertwine in elegant contrast. San Miguel de Allende’s own history was a powerful guide throughout the process, and Laposse often turned to local artisans and craftsmen as a way of honoring local history.

The gastronomic heart of Dos Casas is Áperi – from the Latin “open” perfectly describes the restaurant’s proposal, which offers a unique culinary experience; food for the five senses, prepared with the freshest ingredients from the region and the passion and excellence that characterizes its cuisine.

At Áperi, the menu is based on natural seasonal local products from farmers in the San Miguel region. Here, gastronomy begins where the product reigns. By eating at Áperi, we contribute to the development of modern Mexican cuisine and agriculture in the region.

Colorful, historic, and rich in culture, San Miguel de Allende is the authentic Mexican experience at its best. The city seduces us with its unmissable flavors and vibrant atmospheres that mesmerize and seduce us within a colonial setting of breathtaking beauty.
