It is expected that by August of this year the work on the UNAM San Miguel de Allende Campus will be completed and by the same date, students will be able to enter the campus.
The work, which consists of a first stage, is being executed in three parts: the one that has to do with the access and the administrative area, which is 95% complete, it is almost ready to be finished.
There is also the area of the classrooms, laboratories, and a polyclinic, which is 35% complete, this part is where they were delayed because SICOM fired the construction company and launched the bidding again, then the work is still stopped, but apparently, on February 4 this area will be resumed again, said the head of the Extension of the UNAM San Miguel de Allende, Dr. Javier de la Fuente Hernandez, who in a telephone interview shared with us all the details of the progress of the construction of the Campus.
“There is a delivery time, maximum I think it is 270 days, it is thought that it will be a little less and that has to do with this part which is the second large area to be done,” said Dr. Javier de la Fuente.
“At the same time,” he added, “Once this work that was stopped is restarted, probably in March or April of this year, a third part will begin, which consists of building the recreational and sports areas, of which it would be up to them, to UNAM, to do that part as well, and to support with the gymnasium equipment, The commitment of funds from the General Secretariat of the Universities, and this would be done at the same time that the area of the classrooms and the polyclinic progresses, to land, to finish everything in the month of August, which is when the third generation of the bachelor’s degree in Translation enters,” explained the doctor.
It should be remembered that this important project is a work of the UNAM, supported by the municipal government and also with the support of the State Government, the execution of the work is the responsibility of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Connectivity, and Mobility of Guanajuato (SICOM).
The UNAM San Miguel de Allende is a very important project, long-awaited by the community, a project that began many years ago, in 2011, and throughout this journey, mayors such as Luz María Núñez (who brought the first Extension to SMA), Mauricio Trejo, Ricardo Villarreal, Luis Alberto Villarreal, and Luis Alberto Villarreal have participated, Ricardo Villarreal, Luis Alberto Villarreal and again Mauricio Trejo, all of them have contributed an important part, some of them had to do with the land, with the town council for the donation of the land, with the signing of the first agreement, with the resources, with the construction, etc., etc.
In June 2021 the construction of the UNAM Campus San Miguel de Allende was stopped, because the company ARCOMI, S.A., the construction company in charge of executing the first stage of the master plan of the Extension, was not doing things right, they were working very slowly and with deficiencies in quality, so they were fired and the state government had to work on a new bidding process. The work is still stopped but it seems that it will be resumed in the first days of February, apparently, the company “Constructora y Edificadora Guanajuatense S.A. de C.V.” will be in charge of resuming and finishing what is missing.
