The local deputy for district 09, Ricardo Ferro, said that the issue of the Allende Dam and the problem of the water lily that has affected this important body of water in San Miguel de Allende for more than 3 years will be included in the agenda of the State Congress.
Ferro stressed that, despite the fact that the responsibility for the dam and its management falls on the Federation and the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), he will not sit idly by. “We know that it is up to the federation, but that does not prevent us from starting to work to lower resources and coordinate efforts with the state government to improve the situation of the dam,” explained the legislator.
The Allende Dam, which has been facing water lily blooms for more than 3 years, has become a constant concern for the inhabitants of the area. In recent years, the residents of nearby communities have taken the initiative to manually clean the dam, carrying out weeding and collecting the lily. This effort has been fundamental, but it has not been enough to solve the underlying problem, which lies in the wastewater discharges that feed the uncontrolled growth of the lily.
Ferro stressed his interest in being part of the commission in charge of dealing with the issue of water and stressed that, by achieving the inclusion of the case of the Allende dam in the 2025 agenda, the issue will become a priority point of work in Congress. “This 2025, it will be a fundamental issue in the Environment Commission,” he said.
Regarding the solution to the problem of the water lily, Ferro pointed out that the main cause of its proliferation is pollution by wastewater, and that this will be one of the aspects that will be addressed urgently. “We are going to press to obtain the necessary resources and regularize the discharges of wastewater that feed the lily. We will work together to solve this problem and for the benefit of San Miguel,” he added.
“The Allende dam is a heritage of all, regardless of our political differences. This is an issue that concerns us all, and we must work together for the well-being of the region,” concluded Ricardo Ferro.
