According to the most recent report of the National Water Commission’s Mexico Drought Monitor, dated March 15, 2022, 15 municipalities in Guanajuato are already experiencing moderate drought.
These are: Acámbaro, Apaseo el Alto, Apaseo el Grande, Celaya, Coroneo, Cortazar, Doctor Mora, Jerécuaro, Ocampo, Salvatierra, San José Iturbide, Santa Catarina, Tarimoro, Tierra Blanca and Victoria.
These municipalities already have some damage to crops and pastures; there is a high risk of fires, low levels in rivers, streams, reservoirs, watering holes, and wells, so the authorities recommend the population to use water responsibly.
The rest of the municipalities remain abnormally dry (D0), a dry condition that is not a drought category.
