Last Friday night was the spectacular inauguration of the first edition of the Festival de las Artes de San Miguel de Allende (FASMA), an event that will bring together different artistic expressions of great level, which will continue to consolidate this city as the cultural heart that makes Mexico and the world beat.

This Friday night, San Miguel de Allende residents, as well as hundreds of national and international visitors, gathered at the Jardín Principal of San Miguel de Allende to be part of the kick-off of one of the art festivals that promises to be a great tradition year after year in the destination.

Attendees were able to observe the renowned and incredible show “Sonic Butterfly” by the hand of its creator, artist Andrea Brook, who 10 years ago was inspired in San Miguel de Allende to conceptualize this performance, which has gone around the world.

Sonic Butterfly is a show with an acoustic harp, with strings that are at least 15 meters long and extend over the audience, which transformed the Main Garden of San Miguel de Allende into a great musical instrument.

Also, two resonance chambers were integrated with a projection screen in the shape of a butterfly, which turned this night into a true musical and visual spectacle that amazed all the attendees.

This renowned show was the inaugural number of the San Miguel de Allende Arts Festival, in which more than 70 activities of plastic arts, photography, music, theater, literature, and art, among other artistic expressions, can be enjoyed.

The Festival de las Artes de San Miguel de Allende is possible thanks to the Fundación Casa Europa México and other organizations such as: Amigos del Museo de San Miguel, Ballet Folklorico Representativo de San Miguel, Bel Canto San Miguel, Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende, Centro Cultural Comunitario, Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Santa Clara, Chorale Can Miguel, Fábrica la Aurora, Festival de Música Barroca de San Miguel de Allende, Festival de Música de Cámara de San Miguel de Allende, Festival de Órgano de San Miguel de Allende, Fundación de Arte Enrique Fernández Martínez, Fundación Expresión en Corto, Fundación para la Conservación del Juguete Popular Mexicano.

In addition, the following are also integrated: Galería Ana Julia Aguado Fine Art Distrito Soma, Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, through the Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez “El Nigromante”, Instituto Tecnológico Sanmiguelense de Estudios Superiores, La Troupe México, Reserva Natural Jardín Botánico el Charco del Ingenio, San Miguel el Grande pro Música, San Miguel Literary Sala and Writers’ Conference, San Miguel Metopera Trust, and the Unidad de Extensión San Miguel de Allende de la Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores Unidad León, of the Universidad Autónoma de México.
