The Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF) announced its 26th edition, which will be held from July 20 to 30, 2023 and opens its call for feature film, documentary, short film and VR competition, from this January 16, until April 1 of this year.
The Guanajuato International Film Festival announces that it will celebrate its twenty-sixth edition from July 20 to 30, so it calls on Mexican filmmakers and from around the world to send their films from this January 16 until April 1 in the categories of feature film competition, documentary, short film, animation, experimental, Guanajuato and virtual reality. In order to continue promoting Mexican cinema, registration is free for national filmmakers.
For more information you can consult www.giff.mx as detailed in the call, each category will have various awards and benefits, including that GIFF is a qualifying festival for Oscar nominations.
In the last edition of the Guanajuato film meeting, 3,201 films were received, from 136 countries, including 712 from Mexico from its 32 states. During the festival, 183 films from 48 countries were screened, 129 were part of the Official Selection and the rest were part of the special sections out of competition such as Midnight Madness, Children in Action and Cinema among the Dead.
In addition to this call, GIFF announced that four Mexican producers are receiving GIFF scholarships to the Rotterdam Lab, which will be held from January 28 to February 5.
In this film laboratory, the fellows take a complete program that includes sessions, tables and consultancies that seek to grant them tools and skills so that they can navigate the world of financing, sale and distribution of films internationally. On this occasion GIFF has awarded scholarships to Daniel Loustaunau and Paulina Villavicencio.
In addition, this year the Rotterdam Lab implements the Alumni Special Edition, since the last two years it was held online, this allows previous scholarship holders to return to live a closer networking experience. The returning Mexican filmmakers are Abril López Carrillo and Fernanda Galindo.
GIFF maintains its commitment to Mexican cinema by supporting its protagonists and continues to be a window of cinematographic diffusion worldwide.
