JULY SMA PLAYREADERS PRESENTS:
July 24 and 25 at the Santa Ana TheaterDead Man’s Cellphone by Sarah Ruhl
A cellphone rings incessantly in a quiet café. A woman at the next table has had enough of it. Why doesn’t the guy answer it? She answers it for him and immediately things grow weirder and weirder. Curiouser and curiouser. And darker and darker. Can she find her way through it all? So begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, SMA Playreader’s choice for its July production.
Dead Man’s Cellphone is about how we remember the dead – and how that memory changes us. It is the journey of a woman forced to confront her own morals in a boundary-less, tech-obsessed world, rapidly challenging all we hold near and dear.
At heart, Sarah Ruhl’s Dead Man’s Cellphone is a laugh out loud romantic comedy mixed with noir suspense.
Take the call. Enjoy the ride!
