San Miguel de Allende will gather its artisanal talent in the next edition of the “National Wool and Brass Fair”, which has made it the Ambassador of Guanajuato in Mexico and the world.
As part of the actions of the Municipal Government headed by President Mauricio Trejo to promote San Miguel artisans, the “National Wool and Brass Fair” will be held from November 22nd to December 1st, which promotes the rescue and conservation of handicrafts that currently remain part of the cultural legacy of this World Heritage city.
The craft sector is one of the main trades that move the economy of the “Best Small City in the World”, so promoting these events as a tourist destination is of utmost importance for the Municipality, since they expose to thousands of visitors the great local talent.
The “National Wool and Brass Fair” will be present in the main garden of San Miguel, the main point that the Municipal Government recovered for this expo, where it concentrates tourists who arrive at this destination; This implies that artisans sell 10 times more than in their traditional workshops, so an important economic spill is expected, which even exceeds the figures of previous years.
During this important traditional meeting in San Miguel, more than 40 exhibiting families of different craft branches, such as metalwork and wool, will meet, with more representative products from San Miguel, highlighting mirrors, lamps, lanterns, hearts, Christmas trees, stars, portrait frames, rugs, scarves, rebozos and more typical crafts of local crafts.
The “Wool and Brass Fair” began in the period of Manuel Martínez Maldonado in 1978, being Don Salvador de Lara Martínez and his wife Doña Evelia León, Don Raúl Romay and Don Baltazar Ramírez García its founders.
The original headquarters was the Ignacio Ramírez cultural center “El Nigromante”, where it has been sought since then to promote and generate an identity for the representative crafts of San Miguel de Allende; in this place the most outstanding artisans of the time met as the families Llamas, Bustamante, Salazar, Jiménez, Deanda, Muñoz, among others who today continue to leave a great legacy to the essence of Sanmiguelense through their unique products.
